DescriptionBoard of Directors Recruitment AnnouncementOrganization: Clackamas Heritage PartnersLocation: Oregon City, OregonPosition Type: Volunteer Board MemberAbout Clackamas Heritage PartnersClackamas Heritage Partners (DBA Historic Oregon City) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and sharing the rich history of Oregon Territory, Clackamas County, and Oregon City; the western terminus of the Oregon Trail. Through our End of the Oregon Trail Interpretive Center, we provide engaging exhibits, educational programs, and community events with the goal to educate and inspire by telling authentic stories of the Oregon Trail and its diverse peoples, interpret the events of the westward migration and its lasting impact on our region, and foster appreciation and stewardship of our local history.Located on the 8 acre Historic Site designated as the Official Terminus of the Oregon Trail, CHP serves nearly 30,000 visitors annually and we continue to grow. This is a historic opportunity for communities who have previously not had access to CHP Board participation.In collaboration with our core Partners The City of Oregon City, Mt. Hood Territories, Travel Oregon, and The Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde we seek to explore the people, cultures, and events impacted by The Oregon Trail. The organization is one year into a three year community building program to deeply review the history we tell and to lift the stories of the trail that have been historically under told.Board of Directors OpportunityClackamas Heritage Partners is seeking passionate, committed individuals to join our Board of Directors. As a board member, you will play a vital role in guiding the strategic direction, governance, and financial stewardship of the organization.We are particularly interested in candidates who bring skills or experience in any of the following areas:Tourism and hospitalityFinance and budgetingLocal Culture and historyFundraising and developmentMarketing and communicationsEducation and public programmingCommunity and Volunteer engagementNonprofit governanceAll motivated individuals who are eager to contribute to our mission are encouraged to apply.Treasurer PositionIn addition to regular members, We are specifically recruiting for the Treasurer role, responsible for:Overseeing financial affairs and reporting to the board regularly.Collaborating with the Executive Director on budgeting and financial planning.Leading audit processes and financial policy development.Ensuring compliance with IRS 501(c)(3) and nonprofit financial standards.This member will serve alongside our current treasurer while they learn.Responsibilities of Board MembersRegularly and consistently attend monthly board meetings and participate actively in committees or special projects.Help oversee the financial health and sustainability of the organization.Support fundraising and community outreach initiatives.Ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards.Collaborate with fellow board members and staff to advance the organization's mission.Board ElectionsBoard members are typically elected in December however applications are accepted year round for special elections. New board members typically begin their service in January, following confirmation. A three month commitment to learning is required to be eligible for election. Phone screenings will take place approximately two weeks after application. Selected prospective board members will attend a Board Meeting to interview with the Organization, a second meeting to participate, and are eligible for election as early as their third meeting.QualificationsCommitment to the mission and values of Clackamas Heritage Partners.Skills or experience in tourism, finance, fundraising, marketing, education, or nonprofit governance.Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively.Prior nonprofit board experience is a plus but not required.Time CommitmentMonthly board meetings (Second Monday of the Month at 4pm).Attend organizational events and act as a representative of the organization.Committee involvement as appropriate (Finance, Fundraising, Education, etc.).Approximately 5-10 hours per month, including meetings and preparation.How to ApplyInterested candidates should submit a resume and a brief statement of interest outlining their skills and motivation to the Executive Director at corinne@historicoregoncity.org.For more information and to review our financials, visit https://historicoregoncity.org (2025 Annual Report posts in Mid-May.
