Senior Coatings & Corrosion Consultant
Structural Integrity Associates (SIA) is seeking a Senior Coatings & Corrosion Consultant to help build and grow our coatings and linings service offerings within the nuclear power industry.This role combines technical execution, client engagement, and business development. The selected candidate will support existing coating-related work while playing a key role in expanding SIA's presence in areas such as internal linings, protective coatings, and corrosion mitigation strategies for critical plant assets.This is a high-visibility, growth-oriented role with the opportunity to shape a developing service line and directly influence its long-term success. The position will also support research and development (R&D) programs, field applications, and technical consulting for clients.The work environment within SIA is highly collaborative, leveraging expertise across Structural Integrity (e.g., Materials, Chemistry, Vibration, Advanced Reactors) to deliver solutions that enhance component reliability, extend service life, and improve safety.Primary Responsibilities: Lead and support coating and linings projects for nuclear plant systems involving coating selection, qualification, performance assessment, and application for nuclear and industrial applicationsLead or support commercial grade dedication (CGD) of coatings and lining systems, including identification of critical characteristics, development of dedication plans, supplier evaluation, and ensuring compliance with 10 CFR 50 Appendix B quality assurance requirementsDevelop technical scopes of work, specifications, and inspection plansEvaluate coating degradation, failure mechanisms, and life extension strategiesSupport field activities including contractor oversight and QAInterface with clients to identify needs and develop follow-on workContribute to business development by identifying opportunities, developing proposals and engaging with clientsCollaborate internally to cross sell SI offerings, bundle services, and expand scopeDevelop standardized approaches and best practicesAuthor and review technical reports, test plans, and client deliverablesEngage in client consulting, troubleshooting, and field application supportRequired Skills/Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in engineering, Materials Science, or related field (or equivalent experience)5–15+ years in coatings, corrosion, linings, or asset integrityDirect experience supporting commercial grade dedication (CGD) of materials or components and working within 10 CFR 50 Appendix B nuclear quality assurance programsExperience in specification, inspection, assessment, or rehabilitationStrong client-facing and communication skillsAbility to support business development activitiesExcellent communication and technical writing skillsAbility to travel (~15–30%) to support client projects, testing, and business developmentAbility to obtain Nuclear Unescorted Access Authorization (UAA) as requiredDesired Skills/Qualifications: >10 years of experience in the Nuclear Industry or similar fieldExperience with coatings and polymers under extreme service environments (radiation, high temperature, corrosive media)Direct experience collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teamsFamiliarity with Nuclear Industry materials challenges (e.g., degradation, life extension, advanced reactor applications)Familiarity of standards and testing protocols for nuclear and industrial coatings, such as ASTM (including Committee D33), AMPP/NACE, SSPC surface preparation standards, AWWA coating standards, and applicable nuclear requirements (e.g., 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, EPRI guidance, LR/SLR activities).Familiarity with internal linings, tanks, buried piping, or AWWA systemsAMPP/NACE CIP certificationExperience managing coating contractors in industrial field settingsKnowledge of corrosion mitigation and cathodic protection integrationPolymer/materials science backgroundWhat Success Looks Like:Success in this role is demonstrated by establishing credibility as a trusted coatings and corrosion advisor to clients, contributing to measurable growth in the coatings-related project pipeline, and effectively integrating coatings services with existing offerings such as cathodic protection, MAPPro, and broader program support. The role will also play a key part in supporting the qualification and deployment of coatings systems within nuclear environments, including commercial grade dedication (CGD) and alignment with 10 CFR 50 Appendix B requirements. Over time, this position will help develop repeatable, scalable service offerings that can be consistently applied across multiple sites and clients.Why This Role:This position provides the opportunity to build and shape a new technical capability within an established nuclear consulting organization, with direct influence on strategic growth initiatives. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to influence both the technical direction of coatings services and the overall market approach for this emerging service line.Pay Range:The expected salary range for this role in Denver, CO is $117,090 to $158,840 annually.
