Remote Facility OPS/IVR Coder

The Outpatient Surgery/IVR Medical Coder is responsible for assigning ICD-10-CM and/or CPT/HCPCS codes as appropriate and abstracts pertinent information from patient records. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Assigns ICD-10-CM and/or CPT/HCPCS codes, as appropriate and abstracts pertinent information from OPS/OBS patient recordsEnsures optimal reimbursement of all cases in compliance with CMS policies and procedures and official coding guidelinesImplements medical center's physician query process when code assignments are not straightforward or documentation in the medical record is inadequate, ambiguous or unclear for coding purposesKeeps abreast of coding guidelines and reimbursement reporting requirementsBrings identified concerns to the Professional Recruiter who will direct as neededAbides by the Standards of Ethical Coding as set forth by the American Health Information Management AssociationAdheres to Official Coding guidelines, CMS policies and regulations and Medical Center's policies and proceduresEnsures client's production and quality expectations are metResponsible for timely review and response to Amergis internal QA or client audit results as applicableCommunicates professionally and effectively with clients, coding staff, and Amergis corporate staffDemonstrates effective time management skills by completing assignments within time constraints and calendar scheduleCompletes work assignments independentlyEngages in professional development activities to maintain professional certificationReviews coding reference material including Medical Center specific coding proceduresParticipates in orientation training activities and review material providedCompletes production log and accurately captures coding time in Amergis or client system as applicableCompletes coding of all discharges/encounters ensuring the minimum productivity requirement are metEncrypt all e-mails containing PHI sent to clientIf unable to work on a given day, reports absence as soon as possible to the Professional Recruiter Coding Manager, or via established time off request procedures for future time offSubmits vacation or time off requests following the established time off request procedures at least two weeks in advancePerforms other duties as assigned/necessary Minimum Requirements:Must hold at least one of the following certifications: RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, CPC, CPC-H (COC) or have a preferred minimum of 2 years relevant coding experienceAbility to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is requiredComputer proficiency requiredMust be at least 18 years of age We are an equal opportunity, affirmative action employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, pregnancy, age, national origin, disability status, genetic information, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
