Material Handler – Shipping/Packaging – DAYSMonday – Friday 8:00 AM – 6:00 PMBasic Function: Prepares and packages fiber optic cable for shipment, bag/box and package orders per customer specifications.Significant ResponsibilitiesPerforms specific job responsibilities: Lift, move, sort or place pallets, boxes and items from bin locations to staging areas, build areas, pallets or cratesSecurely band and/or wrap pallets and crates in timely and accurate fashionLoads outgoing shipments on trucks dailyCompares data sheet to the picking ticket and accurately records informationEnsure inventory and labeling accuracy to be packed, palletized and shippedCompares information and counts , weights or measures items for outgoing shipments to verify information against bill of lading or other recordsMatches address labels to tags on cable and labels correctly; determines if the cable needs a UL label and attaches accordinglyProcesses small packages through Fed Ex and UPS softwareAssists in daily team projects as needed; actively participates in quarterly inventoriesUse wireless RF device or desktop computerPromotes OCC’s service excellence and quality. Provides excellent service to customers; builds strong relationships and team cohesiveness; focuses on quality and positive solutions; communicates respectfully; demonstrates compassion and understanding in response to customer request/needs.Champions OCC’s mission, vision and values (as detailed in our 15 Essential Points of Success); complies with policies and procedures, ethical standards and Code of Conduct.Job ScopeWorks as team member to organize and stage outgoing freight for carriers to pick-up dailyCommunicates with other departments daily to solve problemsUses good judgment to minimize mistakes of shipping orders to wrong customersProper use of equipment, including but not limited to the following; sit-down forklift, 2 wheeled cart and pallet jackMinimum Qualifications RequiredEducation: High school diploma or GEDExperience: 1 year experience in Shipping preferredEssential Skills, Abilities & KnowledgeComputer and organizational skills with the ability to properly package, inspect and ship product. Ability to read and follow basic instructions, ability to understand and implement quality procedures. Math and handwriting skills required and the ability to correctly complete all documentation. Ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision. Pay close attention to detail with the ability to complete assignments accurately and to recognize and help resolve problems. Ability to operate a forklift.Working ConditionsWhile performing this job, the employee must have the ability to stand for long periods of time as well as the ability to walk, sit, balance, stoop, kneel or crouch. The employee must have the ability to manually move and lift 50 lbs. regularly and frequently up to and over 100 lbs. This job requires sight sufficient for significant reading and computer use. Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision. This work also requires an individual with hearing sufficient for communication with co-workers and external truck drivers. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals.
