Position Summary, Job Requirements & Responsibilities: What We’re Looking For: Iridium is seeking a highly motivated Software Development Engineer with a desire to learn about Telecom voice and data services to join our team and play a vital role in the design, development and maintainence of software solutions operating in the Iridium Gateway. In this role, you will participate in the architecting, design, development, testing, and deployment of new systems and applications in response to Iridium business and marketing needs. What You’ll Do: Contribute to the team that is responsible for the development of software for projects and services in the Iridium Gateway Participate in meetings with vendors to incorporate their products and software into Iridium service solutions Support the implementation, build and verification activities and help troubleshoot issues to resolution Assist with analyses to ensure designs meet technical performance targets Conduct required gateway functional & performance analysis studies, interface definition, and detailed trade studies Work closely with Independent Verification & Validation (IV&V) team to make sure products have been tested thoroughly Work with team members to ensure high quality products are ready to deploy into production according to assigned schedule Identify and resolve operations issues and work closely with the Operations team to improve maintenance procedures and support troubleshooting efforts Experience & Education Requirements / EEO: What You’ll Need to Succeed: Bachelor’s degree in a computer science or engineering discipline, with software coding coursework Proficient with standard Microsoft Office/engineering tools (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint) Basic knowledge of knowledge of communications systems, voice and data communications, TCP/IP communications, and VoIP technologies Strong ability to code and draft sound, well-structured documents Strong communication skills, with the ability to communicate key messages and ideas clearly and effectively Can cultivate meaningful relationships with your manager and members of your team, while being open and responsive to constructive feedback as they guide and mentor you The ability to think outside the box to help solve problems, with the humility to ask for help when needed Adaptability to a dynamic environment and the readiness to take on any new tasks that are handed to you A motivation to achieve outcomes and results Capable of handling multiple tasks at once and completing them on time with mostly no errors An eagerness to develop professionally, continuously learn, and share knowledge with others Things That Would be Great if You Brought to the Table: Programming languages such as C++, Python, Java, JavaScript Databases: MySQL Operating Systems: Linux/Redhat Protocols: IP, SIP, TCP Telecom industry specs and architecture: 3GPP Working knowledge of AWS development techniques Working knowledge of networking protocols, routers, switches, etc. Familiarity with tool suites such as Gitlab, Jira, R4J, and Confluence Working knowledge of software development methodologies and lifecycles A good understanding of tools and software applications that support software engineering best practices. We’ll also need you to: Be able to work in the office at least 3 days a week to foster collaboration with the team and stakeholders To comply with U.S. Government export control regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), applicants for this position must be either a U.S. citizen, a U.S. lawful permanent resident, or a protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3) (specifically, refugees and those granted asylum status), or eligible to obtain the required export authorizations from the U.S. Department of State or the U.S. Department of Commerce. Work Environment: This position primarily works in the company office or in a home office. The position is largely sedentary with the majority of the position sitting in a chair and working with a computer.
