English & History Tutor

Company DescriptionNext Generation Leaders offers small-group, in-person metacognitive tutoring in all subjects, along with coaching in leadership, organization, and time management for 4th-12th graders.Role DescriptionHours steady during school year, more flexible/ including mornings during summer.This is an in-person position. We are hiring for this position at both offices. We will consider candidates who want to work at one or both locations.School year schedule At least two days Mon-Thurs 5:00-8:00 at our Culver City centerand/orAt least two days Tue/Thu 4:00-8:30 at our Manhattan Beach centerYou'll see students in small groups, during several different sessions each day, and have the opportunity to provide instruction to 1-3 students at a time within the group setting. We serve a diverse group of students from many different schools, including students with neurodivergence.You'll work with middle and high schoolers on advanced reading, writing, note-taking, studying and testing strategies. Level ranges from honors/AP to remediation (a year below grade level).May include same skill set applied to history. This is mostly process work: how to interpret dense text and test questions, how to write essays, how to absorb vocab and other information, how to think symbolically. Our students need coaching more in the skills of learning English and history than the content itself; you would need to help them develop a sound approach to their English or history work but not necessarily be current on all topics.QualificationsYou need to have a strong personal academic background, recent middle or high school classroom experience in the LA area, in English or history, and a reliable schedule since our hours are set and we serve a high volume of students.We have a small but mighty team of thoughtful professionals, most of whom are former or current classroom teachers.
