Sciome consults with leading researchers across the globe providing analytics support for a variety of health and environmental projects that range from investigating complex relationships between genetic and environmental factors to discovering potential therapeutics in biological systems. Our clients generate massive amounts of scientific data using a wide range of high-throughput technologies, and such projects require writing and maintaining high-performance research code. Sciome has an opportunity for a scientific computing specialist who will develop software alongside our scientific and statistical research teams. Additionally, we partner with our clients to develop novel biostatistical methods, mathematical models and machine learning approaches, often resulting in new methods published in peer-reviewed journals along with the release of new software packages for wider use. These software packages frequently need to be written with performance in mind for compute-intensive tasks. The candidate will have a unique chance to work with leading scientists having wide-ranging perspectives on scientific issues and to progress his/her career in a growing organization. Education Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science or related field preferred (e.g., data science, mathematics, statistics). Key Responsibilities Collaborate with statisticians and scientists in writing and maintaining high-performance research code on a variety of projects. Transform pseudocode into functioning software. Identify bottlenecks in existing code, improving speed and efficiency. Determine computing needs and system requirements. Translate code written in higher-level languages into high-performance code (i.e. C++). Acquire foundational knowledge in various scientific fields as needed. Communicate progress and results to both internal and external collaborators. Assist in evaluation and documentation of scientific computing methodologies used. Participate in manuscript/report preparation to accurately summarize study design, methods, analysis plans and interpretation of results. Required Skillset The ideal candidate will have: Strong ability to code in C++. Experience writing parallel and multithreaded programs. Desired Skillset The ideal candidate will have experience in several of the following areas: Knowledge of statistics (e.g. multivariate and logistic regression). Familiarity with linear algebra and multivariable calculus. Familiarity with Python and R. Experience with any of the following: optimization, machine learning, large-scale cluster parallelization (e.g. SLURM, MPI), low-level GPU control (e.g. CUDA), Bayesian statistics (e.g. MCMC).
