They integrate innovative functional solutions with world-class creativity to support Beaufort's vision to become the most trusted provider of survival technology.Job SummaryReporting to the Technical Director - New Product Development for a specific class of products, this role focuses on executing and coordinating product design and development tasks as part of a wider design team. This may include developing and using specialist garment design skills.Duties and ResponsibilitiesAnalyze customer requirements to inform design decisions.Develop design concepts using CAD/CAM tools (Gerber & AutoCAD preferred).Create detailed design drawings using AutoCAD and photography.Participate in design reviews and customer meetings.Prepare comprehensive design documentation.Support manufacturing sites through New Product Introduction (NPI) activities.Research materials, processes, and market requirements to inform product development.Conduct new concept and prototype development with hands-on prototyping, working closely with machinists.Provide customer support as required throughout the development process.Support testing events both on-site and off-site.Occasional travel to support business requirements, including international trips.Make presentations to communicate design ideas and concepts effectively.SkillsGarment and product design expertise.Anthropometric sizing knowledge (training can be provided).Proficiency or willingness to learn Gerber Pattern Design Software (training can be provided).Proficiency or willingness to learn AutoCAD software (training can be provided).Hands-on prototyping skills including RF & Ultrasonic Welding, Cutting, Sewing, Seam Sealing, and 3D Printing (training can be provided; a “can-do” attitude is essential).Understanding of clothing manufacture processes.Understanding of product validation, testing, and qualification (training can be provided).Technical documentation skills including report writing, Standard Operating Procedures, Manufacturing Sequence of Assembly, and qualification documentation.Accountability for self and others to meet commitments.Ability to plan and prioritize work to meet commitments aligned with Beaufort goals.Strong problem-solving skills to make sense of complex, high-volume, and sometimes contradictory information.Experience and QualificationsEducated to either:College degree level or equivalent in a Product Design/Clothing Design discipline High School / Further Education College5 - 10 years of general product design/development/production experience in a technical clothing / apparel sector that enables the role holder to deal with most situations, advise others and technically lead New Product Development projects.
