TITLE: Production Designer (InDesign Templates – Typeface Update)Hours: 25–35 hours total, deadline June 1stLocation: Remote (must be available for check-ins during Pacific Time business hours)W2 ContractOverviewWe are seeking a detail-oriented Production Designer to support a corporate Brand and Creative team on a focused production project: updating approximately 100 existing InDesign templates from Helvetica Neue to a new corporate typeface, Timberline. This short-term engagement emphasizes accuracy, consistency, and efficient file handling across a high-volume file set.Key ResponsibilitiesUpdate approximately 100 existing InDesign templates, replacing Helvetica Neue with Timberline across all defined styles and text elements.Review and update paragraph and character styles to ensure consistent application of the new typeface, weights, and hierarchy.Adjust layouts as needed to resolve copy reflow and overset text caused by the typeface change.Refine leading, tracking, and spacing to maintain or improve readability and alignment with brand standards.Ensure forms, tables, and other structured content remain functionally clear and visually consistent after the font update.Perform thorough QA on all files (including unaffected text for spelling, style consistency, page numbering, and master pages) before final delivery.Prepare final packaged InDesign files and print-ready/export files according to provided production specifications.Collaborate with the Brand and Creative team to address questions, edge cases, and obtain approvals on any layout or hierarchy adjustments.Required Qualifications3–5+ years of experience in production design, graphic design, or layout design, preferably within corporate, financial, or insurance/benefits communications environments.Advanced proficiency in Adobe InDesign, including strong working knowledge of paragraph and character styles, master pages, tables, and preflight tools.Demonstrated experience executing typeface migrations or large-scale template updates across multiple documents.Strong understanding of typography, hierarchy, and grid-based layout, with a sharp eye for spacing, alignment, and other fine details.Comfortable working from existing brand standards and templates with a production-focused, systems-oriented mindset.Excellent file organization, version control, and documentation habits.Ability to work independently, manage repetitive tasks with high accuracy, and meet deadlines across a high-volume set of files.Access to Adobe InDesign and MS OfficeNice to HaveExperience working with insurance, financial services, or other regulated industries and their form-heavy communications.Familiarity with accessibility-minded layout practices (such as clear hierarchy, sufficient contrast, and logical reading order).Experience collaborating with in-house brand/creative teams and external partners or vendors.The pay for this W-2 position is $50 per hour. This range is aligned with current production and graphic design freelance rates in the Portland, Oregon market and may vary based on experience, portfolio strength, and alignment with the project’s specialized typography needs.
