Head Start Teacher Assistant
JOB DESCRIPTIONLAKE RIDGE HEAD START TEACHER-ASSISTANT(Full Time)Monday - Friday7:30am - 4pmDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:1. Will work to improve children's verbal and non-verbal functioning self-image, attention span, and body awareness through mastery of gross motor skills and school/parent/teacher/child relationships. Promote social and emotional growth and cognition in order to establish kindergarten readiness skills under teacher supervision.2. Prepare the classroom for daily activities, providing a safe environment in accordancewith Head Start Curriculum and Performance Standards.3. Will assist Teacher in planning lessons that ensure variety and flexibility in scheduling to meet special needs, activities that will be child-oriented and initiated, include exploration of the child's environment, and provide for individual differences.4. Will assist Teacher with completion of child screenings, assessment data and home visits ( as needed)5. Will work with volunteers and parents effectively as part of the classroom team.6. Will refer children with special needs to the appropriate staff members for follow-up services.7. Will establish a positive and productive relationship with parents, regularly sharing information on their child's progress.8. Will share ideas with other staff members and work cooperatively in carrying out major objectives, including combined group activities.9. Will take full advantage of training and self-development opportunities.10. Will employ self-evaluation techniques to maintain and improve teaching skills.11. Will participate in annual revision and rewriting of the Service Area Plans for education.12. Will fulfill obligations as set forth in the Head Start Performance Standards and the Head Start Service Area Plans as adopted.15. Any other duties as requested by Director QUALIFICATIONS:1. Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education or CDA, previous work with preschool children is desirable.2. Spanish as first or second language would be helpful.3. Must be physically active and able to lead children in physical activities that promote good gross motor skills
