Lead Power BI Developer – Tableau MigrationContract Type: Full-40 hours/week & fully remote, 14-Week Contract (potential to be extended)About the OpportunityWe are seeking an experienced Lead Power BI Developer to support a large-scale Tableau-to-Power BI migration initiative.This engagement involves migrating an enterprise reporting estate of approximately 300 reports ahead of a Tableau license sunset. The project follows a teach-and-partner model, meaning the focus is not simply on outsourcing report development, but on building scalable tools, standards, and internal capabilities that the organization can own long-term.The ideal candidate is a hands-on technical leader who can balance architecture, tooling, automation, and report development while partnering closely with internal analysts and stakeholders throughout the migration process.What You'll DoBe involved as a lead developer for a large-scale Tableau-to-Power BI migration across approximately 300 reports of varying complexity.Build and maintain a Complexity Scoring Engine to assess report complexity, migration readiness, data overlap, and opportunities for consolidation.Develop reusable Power BI tooling and a Programmatic Design Library featuring scalable, on-brand visual and reporting patterns.Establish development standards and best practices around semantic models, naming conventions, workspace organization, publishing, model reuse, and AI-assisted development.Support the architecture and evolution of reusable semantic models, helping create a scalable single source of truth while reducing duplicated business logic.Evaluate opportunities for shared models, model enhancements, model splitting, and semantic views across the existing data landscape.Develop Tableau-to-Power BI conversion patterns and guidance to support a consistent migration approach.Participate in hands-on report migration, refinement, and production polish—particularly where automation requires additional development or stakeholder validation.Build scalable data models using strong star schema principles and develop reusable DAX measures.Partner directly with internal analysts through pairing sessions and working meetings to ensure knowledge transfer happens alongside delivery.Support side-by-side Tableau and Power BI stakeholder reviews prior to report cutover.Continuously improve migration tooling, development standards, and design patterns based on learnings from each migration wave.Document tools, processes, and technical decisions to ensure the organization can independently maintain and operate the reporting environment following the engagement.What We're Looking ForStrong hands-on experience developing production-quality solutions in Power BI.Advanced knowledge of DAX, data modeling, semantic models, and star schema design.Experience migrating or translating reporting solutions from Tableau to Power BI.Experience building reusable development frameworks, automation tools, scripts, or reporting components.Strong understanding of semantic model architecture, model reuse, and reducing duplicated business logic.Familiarity with modern cloud data environments and tools such as Snowflake.Ability to balance technical architecture with hands-on report development.Experience partnering directly with business users and analysts in collaborative or paired development environments.Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts and support knowledge transfer.Experience documenting technical processes and creating sustainable, reusable solutions.
