Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN)

Pay: $90-$100 per hour Job Type: Full-Time | Contract Openings: 2 Positions Schedule: 40 Hours per Week | Monday – Friday | 1st Shift Location: Somers CT 06071 Position Overview In a state agency healthcare delivery system, the Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) independently assesses and evaluates individuals' healthcare status, develops treatment plans to manage health problems, promotes health maintenance, and provides consultation services to optimize care delivery and support system improvements. This is an advanced professional-level role distinguished by clinical independence and prescriptive authority. The APRN works under limited supervision of a Physician, administrator, or higher-level employee and provides clinical leadership to members of the healthcare team. Key Responsibilities Clinical Duties Perform comprehensive advanced nursing assessments, evaluations, and diagnoses Develop and implement treatment plans Order, analyze, and interpret diagnostic studies Prescribe medications and monitor patient responses, adjusting treatment as necessary Assess and manage medical and/or psychiatric conditions Lead cardiac arrest codes and document care Provide medical and/or psychiatric consultation to clinical and direct care staff Deliver individual psychotherapy when applicable Provide care to hospitalized and ambulatory individuals with acute and chronic conditions Educate patients and families regarding diagnosis and treatment Make referrals to appropriate specialists Participate in multidisciplinary evaluation teams Testify in court when required Participate in abuse and/or neglect investigations Administrative & Leadership Duties Provide clinical supervision and leadership to healthcare team members Direct staff on appropriate health record documentation Prepare reports on health services, investigations, and identified issues Participate in quality assurance and clinical committees Assist in determining need for contracted health services Function as liaison between agency and community healthcare providers May direct agency clinic services May conduct home safety assessments Provide training to nursing and paraprofessional staff Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Considerable knowledge of advanced nursing principles and treatment modalities Knowledge of psychiatric nursing practices and substance abuse considerations Knowledge of pharmacology as it relates to advanced practice Knowledge of relevant state and federal laws and healthcare regulations Strong clinical assessment and evaluation skills Ability to diagnose, treat, and manage healthcare needs independently Ability to interpret diagnostic tests and prescribe appropriate medications Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills Administrative and organizational abilities Proficiency with computer software systems Minimum Qualifications Current license as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse issued by the Connecticut Department of Public Health Special Requirements Incumbents must possess and maintain: Connecticut Controlled Substance Registration for Practitioners (Department of Consumer Protection) United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Registration Eligibility for participation in federal healthcare programs (42 U.S.C. 1320a-7b(f)) Relevant registrations and/or certifications as required Valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License (if required) Ability and willingness to travel (if required) Working Conditions May be required to lift and restrain patients/offenders Possible exposure to infectious and communicable diseases Exposure to challenging or disagreeable conditions
