This is important technical work involving the responsibility for the enforcement of ordinances and code requirements. Assignments are received from the Chief Electrical Inspector but incumbents work independently making their own final decision. In disputed or exceptionally difficult cases, they maybe referred to a superior for a decision. Supervision may be exercised over clerical personnel.Examples of work (Illustration Only)Reviews plans for electrical installations or alterations to ascertain compliance with codes and ordinances;Inspects electrical wiring, fixtures and machinery to insure work is being performed in accordance with codes, ordinances, regulations and in compliance with contract plans and specifications;-makes certain proper materials are being used and connections are made correctly with approved contractors;Inspects electrical work for required permits and licensed electrical contractors;Inspects electrical work performed on a contract basis for the City of Buffalo;-determines that work is being performed by a licensed Master Electrician;Advises Electricians, contractors, Architects and the general public regarding electrical codes and ordinances;Prepares necessary data for and serves as an expert witness in cases of violation of city ordinances and electrical codes pertaining to electrical work;,Prepares reports and submits written documentation of all inspection activity or other related activity;Responds to requests from complainants for electrical related inspections;Performs related work as required.Minimum QualificationsPromotional(A) Continuous and permanent status in any city department as a Head Electrician for three years;OR,(B)Continuous and permanent status in any city department as an Electrician for five years.Special Requirement:Possession of a current NYS Drivers License, which must be presented at time of appointment.*Applicants must consent to screening requirements of the New York State License Event Notification Service (LENS). This provision is in accordance with Title 49, Code of Federal Regulations, Section 382.703(a) and cannot be performed without the consent of the applicant.OPEN COMPETITIVE(A) Successful completion of an Apprenticeship Program Classifying as Skilled Tradesman - Electrician sponsored by New York State in conjunction with a local union, private contractor or employer and five years of full time experience as an Electrician at the skilled craft worker (journeyman) level. (Certificate of Completion must be presented at time of filing application.)OR(B) FIVE YEARS of full time verifiable experience as an Electrician at the skilled craft worker (journeyman) level, including all phases of the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical wiring, equipment and devices.(Candidates who qualify under this provision must present at time of filing application an affidavit(s) from an employer(s) verifying the above work experience at the skilled craft worker level. This affidavit must include dates of employment and duties performed.)NOTE: All candidates must present at time of filing application either the Certificate of Completion of an Apprenticeship Program or the required affidavit(s) from an employer(s).NOTE: Education in Electrical Technology or related field will not be substituted for the required work experience.NOTE: MASTER'S ELECTRICIAN LICENSE issued by the City of Buffalo and in accordance with Regulations of the City Charter can be substituted for the above requirements.
