Music Teacher/Teaching Artist - Part-time Summer

Arts For Learning Massachusetts (AFLMA) is seeking energetic music teaching artists to provide weekly music sessions for students with special needs, one or two mornings per week from July 7 - August 14, 2026, focusing on the joy of singing, movement, and playing simple percussion instruments! Location: Kevin O'Grady School, Beverly, MA. (part of the North Shore Education Consortium) Kevin O'Grady School educates students with significant to moderate developmental disabilities, including physical disabilities, autism, and intellectual disabilities. The school is equipped with the latest in technology, including iPads, computers, special learning apps, communication devices and adaptive technology to meet all students' needs. Musical instruments available on-site: shaker eggs, rhythm sticks, small drums, scarves and bells available for music sessions. Arts for Learning MA has a dedicated, long-standing partnership with Kevin O'Grady. ResidencyDetails Dates: July 7 - August 14, 2026. Time: 9:30AM–11:30AM. Participants: Students are grouped by ages and abilities. Younger students (ages 5-11). Older students (ages 12-19) Day of week: Teaching artist(s) can choose consistent day(s) of the week based on their availability. Teaching Options: (Select one) o Option 1: One teaching artist will teach on two consistent mornings for the 7 weeks. Four, 30-minute music sessions on each chosen morning. One morning with Younger students and one morning with Older students. o Option 2: Two individual teaching artists - one will teach Younger students, one will teach Older students. Each artist will select one consistent morning to teach four, 30-minute music sessions for the 7 weeks. Each music session is comprised of 10-14 students Classroom teachers and paraprofessionals participate and assist students at each session, often 1:1 staffing. Job Responsibilities include: Provide four, 30-minute music sessions on the chosen morning(s) each week for 7 weeks Prepare lesson plans, ensure timely and engaging instruction Participate in three Planning Meetings: (a) Pre-residency with O'Grady staff, teaching artist, AFLMA Program Director. (b) Two Debrief Mtgs with AFLMA Program Director Submit evaluation/reflection documents as requested Confer with AFLMA staff to ensure comprehensive classroom experiences Qualifications: Passionate about working with youth with a wide range of abilities Is energetic, reliable, independent, flexible, responsible, organized, and playful! Proficient in playing simple percussion instruments and at least one melodic instrument Able to teach in inclusive classrooms, employ inclusive teaching strategies, and adapt curriculum to the needs of the classroom Able to create and employ weekly lesson plans/curriculum and to provide a diverse repertoire that reflects the abilities and diversity of the students Have strong relationship building and interpersonal communication skills While it is preferred that the teaching artist have some experience working in environments with differently-abled students, there is no requirement to be a music therapist. This position is part-time, with pay rate determined by experience and the number and type of deliveries provided in the assigned residency as listed in the Job Responsibilities above. Salary $52.50 per 30-minute session. ($105/hour). $50 per planning meeting $15-$20 Travel/visit.
