Long Term Substitute - High School Counselor JobID: 602Position Type:Student Support Services/School CounselorDate Posted:4/30/2026Location:Kent County High SchoolAdditional Information: Show/HideTITLE: Long Term Substitute - High School CounselorQUALIFICATIONS: As a minimum, must meet the requirements for aCertificate as a counselor appropriate to thisPosition as required by the Maryland State Board ofEducation By Law 13A.12.03.02.REPORTS TO: Principal, Director of Student ServicesSUPERVISES: N/AJOB GOAL: To complete all guidance and career responsibilities efficiently.PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:Provide or facilitate access to services necessary for students' academic, social, and emotional successManage and monitor all students' progress toward yearly academic promotionComplete necessary reports for county and stateMaintain and update student filesManage and develop 504 plans for students as neededParticipate in various school levels teams (IEP, SST, SIT, MSAP, etc)Participate in community meetings/committees as neededImplement a comprehensive career development program for all studentsPlan and implement a comprehensive school counseling program based on the ASCA standardsProvide classroom-based instruction to students as neededProvide small group and individual counseling and activities as neededFacilitate state testing for students as directedFacilitate access to community resources for parents, students, and familiesFacilitate access to local, state, and national programs for studentsProvide information to all stakeholders regarding school and available programs/opportunitiesPartner closely with school health and secretarial staff to provide wrap-around processes and services for students, parents, and familiesAct a liaison between families and schoolManage all aspects of the registration and transfer process of studentsMonitor students' attendance, and intervene as neededServes as building coordinator for education of homeless students, and helps families experiencing homelessness access services in the communityManages the process for students in need of home/hospital instructionResponsible for all aspects of the management and yearly updates of student records yearly, and ensures compliance with local and state regulations regarding student recordsFacilitate and monitor all aspects of students' transition to and from the Alternative ProgramAssist students in developing and updating a Career Plan of StudyAssist students with PSAT, SAT, and ACT registrationIdentify students who are on free/reduced lunch to assure they receive fee waivers for the SAT, ACT, and college applicationsParticipate in workshops, seminars, and personal reading to enhance counseling skillsOrganize and arrange visits with college recruitersAssist with building the master schedule and the scheduling of all students.Expose college-bound seniors to businesses and community organization offering scholarship.Maintain credit count for graduation progressServe as a liaison for the military, ESOL, and mental health provider.Process college and scholarship applications.Recommend students for review credit and/or summer school courses.Maintain college acceptance and financial aid/scholarship letters.Recommend the purchase of equipment and resources to enhance the guidance and career program.Organize and conduct a Financial Aid Workshop for all students and their parents.Perform other such tasks and assume such other responsibilities as assigned.TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: As found in the Agreement Between the Kent County Teachers Association and The Board of Education of Kent County. Ten (10) month position plus additional duty days as assigned.SALARY LANE: Teacher's Lane. Step established by the Superintendent.BARGAINING UNIT: Kent County Teachers Association.FLSA STATUS: Exempt.EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
