Job OverviewA Civil Estimator plays a pivotal role in the construction industry, requiring a blend of technical knowledge, analytical skills, and attention to detail. This professional is responsible for calculating the costs associated with various civil engineering projects, including transportation infrastructure, commercial buildings, and residential developments. Their primary goal is to ensure that projects are economically feasible while meeting the highest standards of quality and safety. In this role, Civil Estimators work closely with project managers, engineers, architects, and clients to prepare detailed cost estimates that guide the planning and execution of construction projects. Key responsibilities include reviewing project plans, analyzing requirements, and using advanced software tools to create accurate and comprehensive estimates.Civil Estimator Responsibilities & DutiesReviewing and interpreting project plans and specificationsPreparing detailed cost estimates for materials, labor, and equipmentConducting site visits to gather data and assess project feasibilityCollaborating with architects, engineers, and project managersAnalyzing project requirements to identify potential risks and cost-saving opportunitiesUtilizing specialized software for estimating purposesPreparing bid proposals and submitting them to clients or project stakeholdersMaintaining and updating a database of cost information for various construction materials and labor ratesEnsuring compliance with relevant building codes and regulationsEvaluating subcontractors' bids and negotiating contractsMonitoring project costs and adjusting estimates as necessaryProviding cost advice throughout the project lifecycleParticipating in project meetings to offer insights and recommendations on cost-related mattersCivil Estimator Qualifications & SkillsBachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related fieldProfessional certification such as Certified Professional Estimator (CPE)Experience with estimating software such as HCSS, PlanSwift, or BluebeamStrong understanding of construction methods and materialsProven track record of successful project cost estimationExcellent communication and team collaboration skillsAbility to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneouslyKnowledge of local building codes and regulationsExperience in preparing bids for large-scale civil engineering projectsAdvanced analytical and problem-solving abilitiesMinimum of 3-5 years of experience in construction estimatingProficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Office SuiteStrong mathematical and analytical skillsAttention to detail and accuracyAbility to read and interpret construction blueprints and specificationsExcellent organizational and time management skillsKnowledge of construction industry practices and standardsAbility to work independently and as part of a teamCompensation Range$90,000 to $125,000 annually. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future.
