The organization effectively connects value-based care objectives with regulatory requirements and outcomes, delivering measurable results for both providers and patients.Schedule: Monday - Friday, 830A-530PSetting: Remote, up to 50% travel to multiple statesJob SummaryThe Associate Medical Director is a licensed physician (MD or DO) and a key member of the Medical Leadership team, working closely with the Chief Medical Officer. This role delivers clinical leadership and oversight to ensure excellence in patient care quality, utilization management, documentation accuracy, and regulatory compliance across value-based care programs.The Associate Medical Director partners with leaders across Medical, Market Operations, and Provider Relations to advance clinical performance, enhance provider outcomes, and maintain alignment with accountable care models (ACO REACH/LEAD, MSSP). Acting as a peer leader, this position supports physicians and practices by promoting evidence-based care and continuous performance improvement across markets.Essential Job FunctionsProvides clinical oversight of utilization, quality, and performance analytics across markets, provider groups, and primary care practices, identifying trends that impact patient outcomes and financial results.Collaborates with Operations and Provider Relations teams during monthly PCP meetings to support clinical performance improvement initiatives and action planning.Evaluates hospital admissions, discharges, emergency department usage, and readmissions to ensure effective transitional care and continuity of services.Works alongside Case Management and Care Coordination teams to support appropriate post-discharge care, chronic disease management, and risk reduction strategies.Engages with physicians and practice leaders to review performance metrics, close care gaps, and drive initiatives aligned with value-based care standards.Participates in the review and resolution of medical grievances in coordination with internal teams, health plans, and regulatory guidelines.Supports resolution of issues related to clinical performance, documentation standards, patient care concerns, and practice operations.Educates and mentors PCPs on accurate clinical documentation, risk adjustment coding (HCC), quality metrics, and effective use of healthcare technology.Encourages best practices in evidence-based medicine, utilization management, and value-based care delivery.Performs additional duties as assigned.Knowledge, Skills, and CompetenciesStrong expertise in clinical practice, healthcare delivery systems, utilization management, and quality improvement.Solid understanding of value-based care models, population health management, risk adjustment, and financial performance drivers.Familiarity with accountable care programs (ACO REACH/LEAD, MSSP) and CMS regulatory standards.Ability to analyze clinical and utilization data and translate insights into actionable improvement strategies.Maintains strict confidentiality and adheres to HIPAA and privacy regulations.Proficiency in Microsoft Office and clinical reporting systems.Education and ExperienceDoctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited institution.Board certified or board eligible in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or a related primary care specialty (board certification preferred).Active, unrestricted medical license in good standing.Minimum of five (5) years of clinical practice experience in primary care or a comparable field.At least two (2) years of experience in physician leadership, medical director roles, or clinical oversight preferred.Medicare CredentialsExperience with value-based care, utilization management, quality improvement programs, and data analytics.Experience supporting practice transformation aligned with the “Triple Aim” (quality, cost, and patient experience).Physical RequirementsAbility to remain seated for extended periods while working at a computer.Additional InformationMust comply with all HIPAA, confidentiality, and privacy regulations.Reasonable accommodations may be provided to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential job functions.Ability to travel up to 50% as required.
