DescriptionRuby on Rails Developer Position Type: Full-Time, RemoteWorking Hours: U.S. Business HoursLocation: Remote (LATAM, Eastern Europe, Pakistan, South Africa Preferred)About the Role We are hiring a skilled Ruby on Rails Developer to build, optimize, and maintain scalable web applications used by growing businesses and product teams.This role is ideal for an engineer who understands the Rails ecosystem deeply and enjoys building clean, reliable, and high-performing applications from end to end. You will work closely with product, engineering, and design teams to develop new features, improve application performance, and maintain scalable backend systems.The ideal candidate is highly technical, detail-oriented, and comfortable working independently in fast-paced remote environments where ownership, speed, and code quality matter.What You'll Own Rails Application Development • Build and maintain Ruby on Rails applications, APIs, and backend servicesDevelop scalable business logic using Rails conventions, ActiveRecord, controllers, and service objectsBuild RESTful APIs and integrate third-party services and external APIsCollaborate with frontend developers using React, Vue, or Stimulus when requiredContribute to feature development from architecture through deploymentDatabase Design & Optimization • Design and maintain PostgreSQL or MySQL database schemasOptimize database queries and improve application performanceImplement indexing, caching, and query optimization strategiesManage background jobs using Sidekiq, Resque, or similar frameworksEnsure applications remain scalable and performant under growing workloadsTesting, CI/CD & Code Quality • Write and maintain unit, integration, and system tests using RSpec, Minitest, or CapybaraMaintain high code quality standards and test coverageParticipate in peer code reviews and maintain clean, maintainable codebasesSupport CI/CD workflows and automated deployment pipelinesEnforce coding standards using RuboCop or similar linting toolsPerformance, Monitoring & Security • Optimize API response times and overall application performanceMonitor applications using tools such as New Relic, Datadog, Rollbar, or HoneybadgerTroubleshoot production issues and deploy fixes with minimal downtimeImplement authentication, authorization, and application security best practicesEnsure compliance with data privacy and security standards where applicableCollaboration & Technical Ownership • Work closely with product managers and designers to scope and estimate featuresParticipate in sprint planning, technical discussions, and architecture decisionsDocument APIs, workflows, and technical systems for long-term maintainabilitySupport ongoing improvements to development workflows and engineering standardsWhat Makes You a Great Fit • You have strong hands-on experience with Ruby on Rails and backend systemsYou care deeply about writing clean, maintainable, and well-tested codeYou are comfortable balancing rapid development with long-term scalabilityYou are proactive, resourceful, and capable of solving technical challenges independentlyYou communicate clearly and collaborate effectively within remote engineering teamsYou enjoy improving systems, workflows, and application performance continuouslyRequired Experience & Skills • 3+ years of professional Ruby on Rails development experienceStrong proficiency with Ruby, Rails, ActiveRecord, and MVC architectureExperience with PostgreSQL or MySQL databasesExperience with background job systems such as Sidekiq or ResqueFamiliarity with Git workflows and CI/CD pipelinesStrong understanding of RESTful APIs and backend application architectureExperience writing automated tests and maintaining code quality standardsPreferred Experience • Experience integrating React, Vue, or Stimulus with Rails applicationsExperience deploying applications to AWS, GCP, Heroku, or similar cloud platformsFamiliarity with Redis, Memcached, or other caching systemsExperience building SaaS, fintech, healthcare, or e-commerce applicationsExposure to Docker, Kubernetes, or modern DevOps workflowsWhat a Typical Day Looks Like A Ruby on Rails Developer's day revolves around building features, improving performance, and maintaining scalable applications.
