Mainframe Dev & Deployment Tools EngineerThe Role:We are seeking a skilled Mainframe Dev & Deployment Tools Engineer to design, implement, and support development toolchains and deployment frameworks for IBM z/OS environments. This role focuses on enabling DevOps practices, automating build and deployment pipelines, and ensuring smooth application promotion across development, test, and production environments.* This role requires employees to live in or around the Phoenix, AZ area. You will be responsible to be onsite 3 days a week. We will consider candidates who are willing to relocate to the area.Key Responsibilities:Development Toolchain & DevOps EnablementDesign and maintain mainframe development toolchains supporting:COBOL, PL/I, JCL, and related technologiesEnable and support:Source control integrationVersioning strategiesArtifact managementPromote adoption of DevOps practices for mainframe developmentBuild & Deployment AutomationDevelop and maintain automated build and deployment processesImplement tools and pipelines for:Code compilationPackagingPromotion across environmentsAutomate release management processes to:Reduce manual effortIncrease reliability and consistencyDeployment Frameworks & Tools SupportAdminister and support enterprise deployment tools such as:EndevorChangeManISPWManage:Package lifecycle (build, test, deploy, rollback)Promotion paths across DEV → QA → UAT → PRODEnvironment ManagementManage and support:Development, test, and production environmentsEnsure consistency and integrity across environmentsCoordinate deployments with:Application teamsQAOperationsAutomation & IntegrationDevelop automation using:REXX, CLIST, JCL, scripting toolsIntegrate mainframe toolchains with:Enterprise CI/CD pipelinesDistributed DevOps tools (Git, Jenkins, etc. – when applicable)Required Qualifications:5–10+ years of mainframe experience3–5+ years in Dev & Deployment / SCM / Release EngineeringStrong experience with:IBM z/OS environmentHands-on experience with:Endevor / ChangeMan / ISPWSolid understanding of:Mainframe SDLC processesBuild and release managementExperience with:JCL, TSO/ISPF, SDSFSource control and promotion processesKnowledge of:DevOps concepts applied to mainframeAbility to build custom application written in assemblerVery strong Cobol, Assembler and REXX knowledge and experiencePreferred Experience:Familiarity with:DB2, IMS, CICS integration in deploymentsExperience with:CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, Git integration)Automation frameworks (REXX, Python)Exposure to:Mainframe modernization initiativesExperience with:Enterprise-scale DevOps transformationsAutomation of build/release pipelines
