Position: Secondary Professional School Counselor (Grades 6-12)Campus: To Be DeterminedWage/Hour Status ExemptImmediate Supervisor(s): Campus PrincipalPay Grade: Per Compensation ManualDays Employed: Per Compensation ManualPOSITION SUMMARY:Advocate for and support all students in their personal, social, academic, and career developmentDeliver guidance curriculum in various group sizes to support student developmentIndividual and group counselingIndividual student planning and goal-setting activitiesConsultation and coordination activities to support student successEffective interpretation of student assessment dataQUALIFICATIONS:Education/Certification:Master's DegreeTexas School Counselor CertificationExperience:Minimum two creditable years of teaching experienceMAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:Manage and lead the counseling program by planning, organizing, implementing and delivering program activities to improve students' Intrapersonal Effectiveness, Interpersonal Effectiveness, Personal Health and Safety, and Post-Secondary Planning and ReadinessDeliver classroom guidance activities by teaching the school guidance curriculum components through the use of effective instructional skills and intentionally planned structured group sessions for students based on campus needsImplement the individual student planning component by guiding individuals and groups of students, and parents or guardians, through the development of educational, career, personal, or social plansProvide responsive service component services through the effective use of individual and group counseling, consultation, and referral skillsProvide system support component activities through effective school counseling program management and support for other educational programsServe as a consultant to teachers who conduct lesson based on the schools'/districts' guidance curriculumClearly articulate and communicate the counseling program management system and related program action plans to administration, faculty, parents, and the communityDemonstrate ethical and professional behavior and standards as set forth by the American Counseling Association, the American School Counselor Association, and the state of TexasAct as a student advocate, leader, collaborator, and systems change agentAssist students and their parents or guardians in monitoring their academic, career, personal and social development as they progress in schoolCollaborate with administration in the coordination and implementation of school programs that address students' educational, career, personal and social developmentInform and consult with the counseling program advisory council in its role in planning and implementing the counseling programGuide and advise students and their parents/guardians regarding the importance of higher education, coursework designed to prepare students for higher education, and financial aid availability and requirementsConduct an annual campus counseling program evaluationProvide parents and staff training and consultation to foster student educational, career, personal and social developmentPerform other related comprehensive school counseling program assignmentsFacilitate and maintain records and evaluations of campus family engagement programs (English and Spanish)Oversee the distribution, collection, and results summary of English and Spanish parent surveys (Title I and other)Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment; other specialized and adaptive equipment used by studentsPosture: Frequent standing; kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twistingMotion: Frequent walking and reachingLifting: Frequent light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); heavy lifting (45 pounds or over) and positioning or students with physical disabilities, controlling behavior through physical restraint, assisting non-ambulatory students, and lifting and moving adaptive and other classroom equipmentEnvironment: Work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); exposure to noise; exposure to biological hazards (body fluids, bacteria, communicable diseases)Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stressProfessional Dress: Dress must be clean, neat, in a manner appropriate for his or her assignment, and in accordance with any additional standards established by his or her supervisor and approved by the Superintendent. During work hours, visible body piercings (except earrings) will not be allowed.EVALUATIONS:Performance of this position will be evaluated annually
