Yard Jockey
Operates a specialized terminal tractor to efficiently move, park, and arrange trailers and containers in a warehouse, distribution center, or shipping yard, often hooking/unhooking without manually cranking landing gear. Key responsibilities include, inspecting trailers for damage, assisting with docking, managing yard inventory, and maintaining a high standard of safety, frequently requiring a CDL and strong backing skills. Key ResponsibilitiesTrailer Maneuvering: Moving trailers between docks, staging areas, and maintenance bays to ensure, efficient flow of loading and unloading.Equipment Operation: Driving specialized yard tractors and using hydraulics to lift trailers, reducing the need for manual cranking.Safety & Inspection: Conducting pre- and post-trip inspections on trailers, checking for damages, and ensuring proper trailer sanitation.Yard Management: Tracking trailer locations, performing yard audits, and reporting maintenance issues.Fueling & Maintenance: Fueling reefer (refrigerated) trailers and performing basic preventative maintenance on tractors and tools.Job Requirements & QualificationsExperience: Previous experience as a driver, operator, or in a warehouse environment (e.g., forklift experience) is preferred.Skills: Exceptional backing and maneuvering skills in tight spaces, strong spatial awareness, and good communication skills.Physicality: Ability to work in all weather conditions and perform tasks requiring physical dexterity.Our Commitment to Fair Hiring:HireQuest does not discriminate on the basis of Race, Color, Religion, Sex, Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, National Origin, Age, Genetic Information, Disability, Protected Veteran Status, or other legally protected group status in making hiring or employment decisions.
