Process Development Engineer, Cell Dry Electrode

What to Expect Tesla is seeking a highly motivated Process Development Engineer to create, develop, and scale up manufacturing processes for our cutting-edge dry battery program. The battery cell is one of the most complex and critical components in Tesla vehicles and energy storage systems, and the electrode is at its core. This is an exciting opportunity to join a world-class manufacturing facility and work on next-generation 4680 cell program. In this role, you will invent, develop, scale up, and optimize electrode manufacturing processes within a cross-functional engineering team responsible for the full development lifecycle — from initial concept through launch into high-volume manufacturing. What You'll Do Develop and optimize electrode manufacturing processes for newly introduced materials and electrode designs Develop and scale up innovative electrode manufacturing processes and equipment, from concept validation to high-volume production, to enhance cell performance and reduce cost Improve process capabilities through design of experiments, critical data analysis, and in-depth understanding of product metrics Characterize existing processes, establish controls for critical parameters, improve process robustness Build process documentation to accurately define the process to cross-functional teams (equipment, quality, metrology, production, etc.) Drive process commissioning on new equipment and manufacturing line What You'll Bring Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent experience 3+ years of experience in process development, manufacturing engineering, or similar Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals and ability to apply them towards process development Proven problem solver - demonstrated experience of data driven root cause analysis, statistical software (JMP) a plus Demonstrated capabilities in manufacturing process development for new and unique products Experience in areas such as roll-to-roll coating, calendering, roll compaction, lamination, dry powder processing, industrial chemical processing, battery manufacturing and characterization — whether at lab scale or high volume — is highly desired Compensation and Benefits Benefits Along with competitive pay, as a full-time Tesla employee, you are eligible for the following benefits at day 1 of hire: Medical plans > plan options with $0 payroll deduction Family-building, fertility, adoption and surrogacy benefits Dental (including orthodontic coverage) and vision plans, both have options with a $0 paycheck contribution Company Paid (Health Savings Accounts) HSA Contribution when enrolled in the High-Deductible medical plan with HSA Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) 401(k) with employer match, Employee Stock Purchase Plans, and other financial benefits Company paid Basic Life, AD&D Short-term and long-term disability insurance (90 day waiting period) Employee Assistance Program Sick and Vacation time (Flex time for salary positions, Accrued hours for Hourly positions), and Paid Holidays Back-up childcare and parenting support resources Voluntary benefits to include: critical illness, hospital indemnity, accident insurance, theft & legal services, and pet insurance Weight Loss and Tobacco Cessation Programs Tesla Babies program Commuter benefits Employee discounts and perks program Expected Compensation $91,600 - $195,600/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
