Process Development Engineer, Cell Dry Electrode
What to Expect
Tesla is seeking a highly motivated Process Development Engineer to create, develop, and scale up manufacturing processes for our cutting-edge dry battery program. The battery cell is one of the most complex and critical components in Tesla vehicles and energy storage systems, and the electrode is at its core.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a world-class manufacturing facility and work on next-generation 4680 cell program. In this role, you will invent, develop, scale up, and optimize electrode manufacturing processes within a cross-functional engineering team responsible for the full development lifecycle — from initial concept through launch into high-volume manufacturing.
What You'll Do
Develop and optimize electrode manufacturing processes for newly introduced materials and electrode designs
Develop and scale up innovative electrode manufacturing processes and equipment, from concept validation to high-volume production, to enhance cell performance and reduce cost
Improve process capabilities through design of experiments, critical data analysis, and in-depth understanding of product metrics
Characterize existing processes, establish controls for critical parameters, improve process robustness
Build process documentation to accurately define the process to cross-functional teams (equipment, quality, metrology, production, etc.)
Drive process commissioning on new equipment and manufacturing line
What You'll Bring
Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent experience
3+ years of experience in process development, manufacturing engineering, or similar
Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals and ability to apply them towards process development
Proven problem solver - demonstrated experience of data driven root cause analysis, statistical software (JMP) a plus
Demonstrated capabilities in manufacturing process development for new and unique products
Experience in areas such as roll-to-roll coating, calendering, roll compaction, lamination, dry powder processing, industrial chemical processing, battery manufacturing and characterization — whether at lab scale or high volume — is highly desired
