This position is ideal for an experienced engineer who enjoys hands?on technical ownership, complex problem solving, automation, and close partnership with security, compliance, and operations teams.Hybrid work is supported in designated hub locations to promote collaboration while maintaining flexibility.Role OverviewThe Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for engineering, supporting, and optimizing Microsoft 365 services, including Teams, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, and Exchange Online. The role also provides advanced operational support for Microsoft Purview capabilities related to data governance, compliance, and information protection.This position serves as a senior technical escalation point, ensuring platforms remain highly available, secure, compliant, and aligned with enterprise standards and regulatory requirements.Essential ResponsibilitiesMicrosoft 365 Engineering & OperationsEngineer, configure, and support Microsoft 365 workloads including Teams, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Exchange Online, and related servicesManage tenant?level configuration, service settings, policies, and integrations with identity and access controlsProvide Tier 3 operational support, troubleshooting complex platform issues and performing root cause analysisMonitor service health, usage trends, and platform performance, driving continuous operational improvementsImplement and maintain automation using PowerShell, Microsoft Graph API, and related toolingSupport platform upgrades, feature releases, and change deployments, including testing and validationMicrosoft Purview & Data Governance OperationsImplement, configure, and support Microsoft Purview capabilities, including:Data Loss Prevention (DLP)Sensitivity Labels and Information ProtectionData Lifecycle Management and Retention PolicieseDiscovery (Standard and Premium)Insider Risk ManagementCommunication ComplianceRecords ManagementSupport enterprise data classification, labeling, and retention initiativesEnforce governance controls for Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive contentPartner with legal, risk, compliance, and security teams to support audits, investigations, and regulatory requestsMaintain operational documentation and evidence supporting compliance requirementsSecurity & Compliance EngineeringImplement Microsoft 365 security controls aligned with Zero Trust principlesIntegrate Microsoft 365 services with identity, security, and endpoint protection platformsAssist with compliance assessments and remediation activitiesMaintain configuration documentation and operational runbooksSupport initiatives to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of enterprise dataContinuous Improvement & Technical LeadershipContribute to Microsoft 365 and Purview standards, engineering guidelines, and operational best practicesEvaluate new Microsoft features and support controlled adoption effortsDevelop usage reporting, operational metrics, and platform health indicatorsProvide mentoring and technical guidance to junior engineers and administratorsParticipate in on?call rotations and after?hours support as requiredMinimum QualificationsEducation or experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field7+ years of progressive IT experience, including 5+ years supporting Microsoft 365 in an enterprise environmentStrong hands?on experience with:Microsoft Teams, SharePoint Online, and OneDriveMicrosoft Purview (DLP, eDiscovery, Records Management, Information Protection)Microsoft 365 security and compliance featuresAdvanced PowerShell scripting experience for automation and administrationSolid understanding of identity and access management, including Entra ID (Azure AD) and Conditional AccessExperience supporting regulated or compliance?driven environmentsStrong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem?solving skillsExcellent written and verbal communication skillsAbility to work effectively in a fast?paced, enterprise environmentOn?call availability as requiredPreferred QualificationsMicrosoft certifications such as:Microsoft 365 Enterprise Administrator ExpertMicrosoft Information Protection Administrator (SC?400)Microsoft Security, Compliance, and Identity certificationsExperience with Insider Risk Management and Advanced eDiscoveryFamiliarity with Defender for Cloud Apps and other Microsoft security integrationsExperience supporting large, multi?geo Microsoft 365 tenantsWork Environment and Physical RequirementsWork is performed in a standard office environment and is primarily sedentary, involving extended computer use.
