Monthly Salary: $3,429 - $4,023 (Effective February 1, 2026, this position will receive a 2.5% Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA). The salary shown does not include the COLA.) As a Laborer for the Oregon Department of Administrative Services (DAS), you’ll do hands-on work inside and outside state buildings in Salem, Portland, and Eugene. This role is ideal for someone who likes working with their hands, doesn’t mind getting dirty, and takes pride in their work. What You’ll Do Typical duties include: Responding to urgent needs such as graffiti removal and emergency cleanups Operating equipment like floor scrubbers, sweepers, pressure washers, and small tractors Performing basic equipment care (cleaning, checking fluids, changing filters or oil) Delivering supplies, moving furniture, and setting up workspaces or events Keeping storage areas, buildings, and workspaces clean and organized Assisting skilled trades staff and supporting safety-related work as needed View the job description here . Working Conditions: This role involves frequent physical labor, and requires the ability to: Perform sustained physical labor throughout the shift, including standing and walking on cement, tile, and carpeted surfaces Lift, carry, push, pull, and maneuver materials and equipment weighing up to 50–60 pounds (occasionally more with team lift) Bend, reach, twist, squat, and occasionally climb ladders Operate hand-operated and powered equipment safely Work both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, including inclement weather Perform short periods of heavy physical activity as operational needs require Safely use cleaning and sanitation chemicals and follow all safety procedures Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and complete mandatory safety training Frequently work with waste, including hazardous materials such as bodily fluids (blood, vomit, fecal matter) and drug paraphernalia What We Are Looking For Minimum Qualifications: Must be at least 18 years of age Experience working as a member of a crew or team. Experience following custodial guidelines and safety policies/procedures. Experience operating a forklift and working with personnel lifts. Experience towing trailers of varying types and lengths, such as utility, cargo, flatbed, or equipment trailers.
