TASK FORCE: Environmental Sustainability and ResiliencyUNIT: Sustainability PolicyJOB TITLE: One (1) Summer InternCONTROL CODE: ESR Intern-26-01SUMMARY:The Mayor's Office of Management and Budget (OMB) is the City government's chief financial agency. OMB's staff of analysts and experts assembles and oversees the Mayor's expense and capital budgets, which fund the services and activities of approximately 90 City agencies and entities.The Sustainability Policy Unit leads analysis and strategy development to advance the City's climate and environmental goals. The unit works at the intersection of climate policy, public finance, and long-term planning, evaluating how City investments, programs, and regulations align with emissions reduction, resiliency, and affordability objectives. The team conducts quantitative analysis, develops and maintains emissions forecasts and tracking systems, and supports the Climate Budget and related publications. It works closely with City agencies, budget staff, and external partners to assess the fiscal and environmental impacts of proposed initiatives. The unit's work informs executive decision-making by translating technical climate data into clear policy and budget guidance.JOB DESCRIPTION:The intern will support the Climate Capital Budget (CCB) and broader climate budgeting workstreams. Projects may include: Assisting with data cleaning, validation, and organization of capital project emissions data submitted by agencies; Supporting updates to the CCB tracking database and helping reconcile project-level emissions estimates with forecast assumptions; Conducting research on emissions reduction measures, cost-effectiveness, and relevant policy benchmarks; Supporting documentation of model inputs, assumptions, and methodological updates related to the City's emissions forecast; Assisting with preparation of summary tables, charts, and briefing materials for internal and external stakeholders. The intern will gain exposure to applied climate policy analysis, emissions accounting, and the intersection of budgeting and decarbonization strategy.QUALIFICATIONS:Strong quantitative and analytical skills;Proficiency in Excel required;Familiarity with Python, R, or other data analysis tools strongly preferred;Experience working with structured datasets and performing data cleaning and quality checks;Ability to synthesize technical information into clear written summaries;Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks with clear documentation;Interest in climate policy, public finance, energy systems, or environmental economics.REQUIREMENTS:A cover letter is required to be considered for this position. Additionally, candidates must be proficient in MS Word and ExcelTo participate in the OMB Summer Internship Program, graduate students must be currently enrolled or accepted into a graduate program.Compensation/Duration:Summer Graduate Intern $20 per hourInternships will run for 10 weeks, from June 1, 2026, to August 7, 2026.
