Location: Onsite 3 days/week – Long Beach, CAWho We AreProvoke is a global consulting firm building AI-native solutions that transform how work gets done. Founded on a culture of innovation, growth, and curiosity, we partner with global clients to design and deploy agentic AI embedded directly into workflows so teams move faster, think smarter, and scale with purpose.OverviewWe're seeking a talented Full Stack Node.js Developer to join our consulting team and work on-site with one of our clients, a regulated organization building modern, secure digital experiences on top of its evolving platform. As a Provoke consultant embedded with the client, you will be responsible for building performant, scalable, and user-friendly web applications end to end — from backend services to polished front-end experiences. You'll collaborate closely with designers, product managers, and data engineers to deliver high-impact features, working within the controls and standards expected of a regulated environment. Why This RoleHands-on ownership across the full stack, not a narrow slice of the codebase, on a platform actively being modernized.Direct collaboration with designers, product, and data engineering, giving broader exposure than a typical siloed dev role.Experience building inside a regulated environment, a differentiator for developers looking to strengthen their resume with compliance-aware engineering practices.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign and develop scalable backend services and APIs using Node.js and modern frameworks (e.g., Express, NestJS).Build and maintain front-end interfaces using modern JavaScript frameworks (e.g., React, Vue, or Angular), ensuring seamless integration with backend services.Implement and manage data access layers, integrating with relational and non-relational databases.Develop clean, well-tested code following best practices for security, performance, and maintainability.Collaborate with cross-functional teams (designers, data engineers, QA) to plan, deliver, and iterate on new features.Participate in code reviews, architectural discussions, and continuous improvement initiatives.Contribute to CI/CD workflows, cloud deployments, and production monitoring as part of a DevOps-oriented culture.Required Qualifications3+ years of professional experience as a Full Stack or Backend JavaScript/TypeScript developer.Strong hands-on expertise with Node.js and related frameworks (Express, NestJS, etc.), including a solid understanding of asynchronous, event-driven programming and its common pitfalls.Solid front-end experience with at least one major framework (React preferred).Proficiency in RESTful API design and integration; GraphQL experience is a plus.Familiarity with SQL and/or NoSQL databases, including schema design and query optimization.Experience with version control (Git), code reviews, and modern software development workflows.Strong understanding of web application architecture, authentication/authorization, and security best practices.Comfort using AI-assisted development tools (GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, or similar) to speed up implementation, with the judgment to review and validate AI-generated code rather than merge it blindly.Must be authorized to work in the United States.Preferred QualificationsExperience with TypeScript in both front- and back-end contexts.Familiarity with containerization (Docker) and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, or GCP).Experience with automated testing frameworks (Jest, Playwright, Cypress, etc.).Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code.Experience with caching layers (Redis or similar) for performance optimization. An eye for UX/UI quality and performance.Secure Development FocusThis role sits within a regulated environment, so secure coding is treated as a core engineering skill, not an afterthought. You will be expected to write code that validates input, handles authentication and authorization correctly, and avoids common vulnerabilities (the OWASP Top 10 is a good reference point). Dependency and package vulnerabilities should be treated seriously given how much of the Node.js ecosystem relies on third-party packages. Code reviews double as a control point, so clear, well-documented changes that a reviewer can actually evaluate are part of doing the job well. Prior experience building features that needed to satisfy a security or compliance review will set you apart.Location US; Long Beach, CA area.
