Roles & Responsibilities
Provide skilled nursing care on a rural medical-surgical unit during night shifts, delivering safe, patient-centered care
Collaborate with Avel tele-intensivist/Tele-ICU support for critically ill patients and escalate concerns promptly
Perform accurate patient assessments, administer treatments and medications, and document in the medical record
Serve as occasional charge nurse: coordinate assignments, support the team, and ensure smooth shift operations
Manage pediatric admissions when they occur, applying PALS protocols and pediatric best practices
Communicate clearly with patients, families, and multidisciplinary team members to promote positive outcomes
Qualifications
Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Mexico (or compact RN eligible)
PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification - required
Experience in acute care and medical-surgical nursing; night shift experience preferred
Comfortable using tele-ICU systems (Avel) and following remote intensivist guidance
Ability to perform occasional charge nurse duties including leadership and triage
Bilingual in Spanish is a plus but not required
Knowledge & Skills
Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking in an acute care setting
Medical-surgical nursing skills and familiarity with common MSK, medical, and surgical diagnoses
Pediatric admission processes and PALS algorithm application
Experience working with tele-intensivist/Tele-ICU platforms (Avel)
Effective communication, teamwork, and ability to lead a shift when acting as charge nurse
