In addition to other specified conditions of employment, the applicant understands that no guarantee of continued employment, beyond the availability of the grant funds, is expressed or implied by Irving Independent School District.PRIMARY PURPOSE: Assist school personnel with parent and community relations and communication in such a way to facilitate achievement of school's goalsQUALIFICATIONS:Minimum Education:High School Diploma or GEDValid Texas Paraprofessionanl Certificate or ability to obtain upon hireMust meet 1 of 3 following criteria as required by NCLB:Associate's degree, OR60 credit hours from an accredited institution of higher learning, ORSuccessful completion of basic written examSpecial Knowledge/SkillsAbility to work well with adults, parents, and community representativesAbility to work well with childrenAbilityt to use/learn basic computer applicationsKnowledge of general office equipmentEffective communication skills (written and verbal) in EnglishAbility to speak Spanish preferredMinimum Experience:* Experience working with children/students or parentsMAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:Contact parents in a systematic manner with positive information about the schoolMaintain confidentiality of informationAssist in communicating a positive image of the schoolMake contact with and share school communications with neighborhood apartment managers and businesses to improve community relationsCoordinate translation of campus documents into Spanish for distribution to parents/guardians who do not read EnglishAssist teachers, administrators, and paraprofessionals in working with parents and students as neededServe as a member of the Multicultural Committee and make recommendations as neededWORKING CONDITIONS:Physical/Mental Demands: Must maintain emotional control and exercise reasoning and problem solving skills while under stress. Must demonstrate ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written). Occasional prolonged and irregular hours.
