We pride ourselves in creating programs within each sport discipline, where Middle and Upper School coaches work closely together to ensure we cover the necessary skills and fulfill the needs of our student athletes.Job DescriptionPositions Available:7/8 Cross-Country: September 2, 2026 through October 30, 2026* Middle School (7-8) Head CoachAbout the RoleThe role of an Avenues coach is to instruct our student-athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary to realize individual and team success. At the same time, the coach must provide a foundation for integrity, pride of accomplishment, sportsmanship, self-discipline, goal setting, teamwork and self-confidence.Head Coaches will:Breakdown and teach the fundamental skills for players at all levelsAttend all scheduled games and practicesManage and coordinate practice and game plansBe responsible for handling all administrative duties related to their teamAttend all necessary athletic and school meetings and eventsAssistant Coaches will:Support head coach in promoting the mission of the programContribute to and/or run practice sessionsGather and record statistical informationAttend all scheduled games and practicesAttend all necessary athletic and school meetings and eventsQualificationsCoaches bring all or most of the following:Head coaches have 2+ years of cross-country head coach coaching experienceAssistant coaches have 1+ years of coaching or related experienceExcellent communication skills (verbal and written)Strong organizational skillsAbility to work well with student athletes, parents, faculty/staff and the athletics departmentCurrent First Aid/CPR certification, or ability to get training before the season commencesKnowledge of the rules and regulations of the sport, with special consideration given to those having experience with the desired age categoryEnthusiasm, commitment, patience, and a passion for teaching the game are essential to this positionAbility to motivate and provide positive leadership to our student athletes by following our school and athletic missionHigh-level competitive playing experience (preferred)Additional InformationAdditional InformationPractice and Meet Schedule:Please note that this is a part time and seasonal position averaging 5-10 hours a week. Varsity roles meet 4x a week and Middle School 3x a week. Practices are 1.5 hours each and competitions up to 1.5 hours, not including travel time. On race days, athletes leave between 2:00 pm-3:00 pm so candidates should be available at this time as well.Middle School Schedule:Meets 3x a week for 1.5 hours from 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm Mondays, Tuesdays & Thursdays. The team races in 1-2 meets per week starting around 4/4:30pm.Salary:Please note that this is a part time and seasonal position averaging 4.5-10 hours a week. Coach pay rates range from $2,800-$3,300 depending on experience level.You must be eligible to work in the United States and will be living in New York or surrounding area during the season.Avenues is deeply committed to diversity, equity and inclusion throughout our organization.
