Athletic Director & Upper Grades Physical Education Teacher (Grades 5-8)
COMPENSATION: $65,559-$113,636 Annually; depending upon experienceThe Athletic Director & PE Teacher is responsible for delivering a developmentally appropriate physical education curriculum rooted in Waldorf pedagogy, while also organizing and overseeing the school's interscholastic athletics program. A key focus of this role is the planning, coordination, and execution of co-ed volleyball games and middle school girls' and boys' basketball games, fostering healthy competition, sportsmanship, and community.Physical Education Teaching (Grades 5–8)Teach engaging, well-structured PE classes that promote physical fitness, coordination, teamwork, and joy in movementDemonstrate excellent classroom management and the ability to work effectively with middle school studentsDifferentiate instruction to meet a range of developmental stages and abilitiesModel fairness, respect, and enthusiasm for sportDevelop curriculum and plan lessons that develop and reinforce movement skills.Athletic Program leadershipServe as Athletic Director for the middle school athletics program.Organize, schedule, and oversee co-ed volleyball games and girls' and boys' basketball gamesCoordinate practices, game schedules, transportation, officials, and facilities as neededEnsure a safe, inclusive, and positive athletic environment for all studentsCollaborate with school leadership and faculty to align athletics with the school's mission and valuesEvents workWith support from the Lower Grades Games Teacher, plans and executes Harvest Festival, Brooklyn Waldorf School's version of a field day in Fort Greene Park.Support May FairCommunity & Parent CommunicationMaintain clear, timely, and professional communication with parents regarding schedules, expectations, and student participationBuild positive relationships with families, colleagues, and partner schoolsRepresent the school with professionalism at games and eventsRequirementsPassion for sport, movement, and working with middle school studentsExperience teaching physical education and/or coaching youth athletics (middle school preferred)Strong organizational and leadership skillsAbility to manage groups effectively and set clear, developmentally appropriate expectationsExcellent communication skills, particularly with parents and caregiversBenefitsFull-Time Faculty, yearly employment agreementCompetitive salary, commensurate with experience, non-exemptBenefits include medical and dental health insurance coverage, retirement, flexible spending and Metrocards (where applicable)Opportunities for professional developmentReduced tuition for dependentsChildcare during faculty meetings and parent-teacher conferences
