What You’re Applying ForWe're looking for a General Counsel to own and lead Lemonade's entire legal, risk, and regulatory function. Reporting directly to the CEO, you’ll serve as the company’s chief legal advisor and one of the most senior leaders shaping how Lemonade navigates risk, scales globally, and operates as a public company. We're building the future of insurance with AI at the center, and we need people who are genuinely excited to learn and grow alongside these tools.In this role you'llOwn all public company legal responsibilities, including SEC reporting, disclosure practices, insider trading compliance, governance, and Board/committee mattersServe as a trusted advisor to the CEO, executive team, and Board on company strategy, material risk, regulatory exposure, litigation, corporate transactions, and reputational matters—leading with a business lens, not a defensive onePartner closely with insurance, claims, security, product, engineering, finance, and people teams to proactively identify and mitigate legal and operational riskLead dispute management across the businessReduce reliance on outside counsel by relying on a capable in-house function and bringing sharp commercial judgment and negotiation to every dealBuild scalable legal processes and actively use AI tools to drive efficiency across the legal teamLead and manage our group of talented in-house attorneys across the businessWhat you'll need12+ years of legal experience, including time as a corporate associate at a law firm and proven in-house experience at a public or high-growth tech companyBachelor's and law degree; bar admission in good standing (New York preferred)Deep grounding in SEC compliance, public company reporting, and corporate governance — you've owned this work, not just advised on itStrong executive presence and the judgment to operate effectively with CEOs, Boards, regulators, investors, and senior leadership teams - guiding strategy, not just flagging riskExperience managing disputed mattersP&C insurance experience or a designation like CPCU is a plus, but not requiredA genuine business-first mindset and risk appetite — you're known for enabling deals, not blocking themExperience leading legal teams and developing strong in-house talent, while maintaining high standards and clear accountabilityReady to work in our NYC office most days of the weekEnthusiasm about learning and adapting to the exciting world of AI – a commitment to exploring this field is a fundamental part of our culture — you actively use these tools and see them as fundamental to how great legal work gets donePlease note that we are unable to sponsor applicants for work visasLemonade's US base salary range for this full-time position is $325,000 - $350,000 plus generous equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
