Transmission Project Engineer I/IILocation: Fresno, CA (2 days a week onsite - hybrid)Duration: 6 Month Contract to HirePay: Contract-to-hireBenefits: $5,000 Relocation Bonus + Full BenefitsOverviewInsight Global is partnering with a large local utility as they continue to expand their Electric Engineering organization to support increased electricity demand driven by AI-focused data centers, electric vehicle adoption, and major grid modernization initiatives.The Transmission Project Engineer will join the Transmission Engineering department and support the delivery of transmission line projects across the full lifecycle. This role combines engineering analysis, conceptual design, and project coordination, with strong exposure to real-world utility project execution.This is a strong opportunity for engineers with transmission line experience—especially overhead systems—who want to deepen their impact in utility-scale infrastructure and grow into project ownership and decision-making.Key ResponsibilitiesEngineering Analysis & DesignPerform engineering analyses and studies to support transmission line projectsDevelop conceptual designs for new builds, reconductoring, and system upgradesPrepare technical documentation including design criteria, scope documents, specifications, and reportsInterpret and apply applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirementsProject Execution & CoordinationPlan and execute work independently under general direction to meet project commitmentsManage multiple projects concurrently depending on scope and complexityCollaborate with internal project teams, contractors, and external stakeholdersPresent findings and technical solutions to internal teams and external partnersField & Design Review SupportConduct field walkdowns and participate in design review meetingsEvaluate constructability and ensure alignment with system requirementsSupport restoration planning and system reliability initiativesRespond to facility failures when neededConsultant & Contractor OversightSolicit, evaluate, and support contracts with engineering consultantsReview consultant deliverables for technical accuracy and complianceProvide guidance to contractors and design teamsApprove reports, drawings, and revisions for project executionProblem Solving & OwnershipAnalyze project issues and provide well-supported recommendationsSupport root cause analysis and corrective actions for system issuesApply sound engineering judgment to develop practical and cost-effective solutionsTake ownership of project challenges and drive resolutionTechnical EnvironmentUtility-scale transmission line projects (overhead and undergrounding exposure possible)Strong focus on reconductoring, rebuilds, and new transmission developmentApplication of NESC and utility standards across project design and executionTools such as PLS-CADD for transmission line analysis and designCross-functional collaboration across engineering, project management, construction, and regulatory teamsHybrid environment with both office-based engineering and field engagementRequired QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical discipline3+ years of experience in engineering and design, with transmission experience preferredExperience supporting electric transmission projects (overhead strongly preferred)Experience using PLS-CADDStrong understanding of project team roles and responsibilitiesAbility to work independently and manage multiple projectsStrong collaboration and communication skillsAbility to interpret codes, standards, and regulationsStrong problem-solving skills and sound engineering judgmentNice to Have Experience (Not Required)Active California Professional Engineer (PE) licenseExperience with undergrounding projectsWhat Makes This Opportunity Stand Out?Direct involvement in large-scale transmission projects tied to grid modernization and future energy demandStrong balance of technical engineering work and real-world project executionExposure to high-visibility infrastructure supporting data centers, EV adoption, and system upgradesClear opportunity to grow into higher ownership roles within transmission engineering and project leadership$145,600- $166,400 per yearExact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education.Benefit packages for this role will start on the 31st day of employment and include medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as HSA, FSA, and DCFSA account options, and 401k retirement account access with employer matching.
