Senior Director, Revenue and Cost Accounting

Position SummaryThe Senior Director of Revenue and Cost Accounting will play a critical role in scaling processes, strengthening internal controls, and supporting the Company’s continued commercial growth. This position will have periodic meetings in the Parsippany, NJ headquarters and will be reporting to the Vice President, Finance, Controller, and Chief Accounting Officer.Primary ResponsibilitiesLead the end-to-end revenue accounting process, including product sales, licensing, and collaboration arrangements, as applicableEnsure accurate application of ASC 606 across all revenue streamsOversee gross-to-net (GTN) estimates, including rebates, chargebacks, returns, copay assistance, and distribution feesOversee and manage external G2N consultants, including scope definition and deliverables, review and challenge of assumptions and methodologies, performance monitoring, and cost managementEnsure alignment between internal teams and external partners on data inputs, assumptions, and reporting outputsPartner with Market Access and Commercial teams as well as external consultants to analyze trends and refine GTN assumptions and projectionsOversee monthly, quarterly, and annual revenue close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and analyticsOversee all aspects of inventory accounting, including raw materials, work-in-process (WIP), and finished goodsEnsure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes related to inventory and cost of goods sold (COGS)Maintain compliance with U.S. GAAP, including inventory costing, variance analysis, and inventory reserves (e.g., excess and obsolete assessments)Own average cost development, updates, and variance analysis across products and manufacturing sitesPartner with Manufacturing & Supply Chain to analyze cost drivers and improve gross marginsSupport procurement, forecasting, and budgeting processes related to inventory and COGSMake final decisions on cost accounting implementations and drive continuous improvement initiativesEnsure compliance with SOX 404 requirements, including design and execution of internal controls over revenue and inventoryMaintain robust documentation of accounting policies and proceduresCompetencies Deep expertise in ASC 606 and GTN accounting, as well as inventory and COGS accounting, in a commercial environmentAdvanced proficiency in financial systems (NetSuite, SAP, Oracle or similar) and ExcelStrong knowledge of SOX compliance and internal controlsDeep expertise in manufacturing cost accounting, including weighted average costing, inventory accounting, and cost forecastingAbility to work with external auditors and internal SOX teamsExceptional written and verbal communication skillsProven ability to operate in a fast-paced, commercial-stage environmentStrong leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skillsAbility to influence cross-functional stakeholdersStrategic thinking skills with strong technical accounting expertiseAttention to detail and commitment to accuracyProcess-oriented with a continuous improvement mindsetStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsExperienceBachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance-related field; CPA strongly preferred12 years of progressive accounting experience, with significant focus on revenue recognition and inventory costingPrior experience in a public company and life sciences/biotech or pharmaceutical industry requiredExperience in product launches and global expansion, strongly preferredExperience supporting SEC reporting (10-K, 10-Q)Strong previous CMC experience working closely with manufacturing teams within the biotechnology/pharmaceutical industryProven experience managing external consultants or outsourced service providers, preferably in GTNModeling of Bill of Materials and inventory forecasting experienceEEO Statement:All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or protected veteran status.Benefit Statement:All regular-status, full-time employees of Geron are eligible to participate in the Company’s comprehensive benefit program, pursuant to plan terms and conditions.
