Technical Project Manager

Overview In this role, you drive ComSec implementation and ATO certification for secure spacecraft systems. You will lead cross-functional teams to align projects with regulatory requirements and organizational goals, tackling risk and compliance in high-stakes environments. You’ll manage plans, track progress, and coordinate with security, engineering, and auditors to deliver secure, auditable outcomes. This opportunity lets you shape security practices in a fast-growing aerospace startup at scale, contributing to mission-critical programs. You will work closely with leadership to enable compliant, secure operations across complex programs. Compensation / Benefitsequity in Apex100% company-paid medical, dental, and vision for you and dependents15 days PTO to 20+ days, plus 10 holidays401(k) with generous matching8 weeks paid parental leave and childcare reimbursementdaily catered lunch and snacks ResponsibilitiesLead planning, execution, and closure of ComSec and ATO projects ensuring regulatory alignmentDevelop and maintain project plans (scope, schedules, budgets, resources) using MS Project or JiraCoordinate with IT security, engineering, compliance, and auditors to gather requirements and facilitate ATO assessmentsOversee the RMF process including system categorization, control selection, implementation, assessment, authorization, and monitoringManage ComSec activities (cryptographic key management, secure protocols, protection of classified information)Conduct status meetings, risk assessments, and progress reporting to senior leadershipEnsure project documentation (security plans, test reports, authorization packages) is complete and timelyMonitor compliance with NIST SP 800-53/171, FISMA, DoD directives, ISO 27001; drive remediation of vulnerabilitiesFoster collaboration and mentor junior staff on ComSec and ATO best practicesEvaluate outcomes via post-implementation reviews and capture lessons learnedAssist in managing or collaborating on other IT & Cybersecurity projects Key requirementsBachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Project Management, or related field; Master’s degree preferred5+ years in project management with at least 3 years in cybersecurity/ComSec/ATO in regulated industriesStrong understanding of cybersecurity frameworks (NIST RMF, FedRAMP, DISA, DoD Instruction 8510.01)Proficiency in Agile and Waterfall methodologies and tracking toolsKnowledge of ComSec (encryption, TEMPEST, secure hardware) and security policiesExcellent communication to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholdersAbility to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment with strong problem-solving skillsExperience with risk assessment tools, vulnerability scanning, and compliance auditingFamiliarity with FIPS 140-2 and CNSSI 1253; TS/SCI clearance; US Citizenstrong communicatorcollaborative leadermentorship mindsetNIST RMFFIPS 140-2DO D 8510.01
