Systems Engineer
Job Summary
Auxiom is a managed IT services provider that operates as a true extension of our clients' IT leadership. We don't just keep the lights on — we help our clients make smart technology decisions, execute complex infrastructure projects, and build secure, scalable environments that support their business goals.
We're looking for a Systems Engineer to join our Engineering team. This is a senior-level role with meaningful client visibility, real architectural ownership, and a scope that goes well beyond traditional systems engineering. If you've spent your career in an MSP environment, thrive in a fast-moving multi-client setting, and have the confidence to walk into a room and present a creative technical solution — we want to talk.
What You'll Own
Client Infrastructure & Project Leadership
You'll lead complex infrastructure projects from scoping through delivery, owning timelines, documentation, and client communication end to end. You set the standard for what "done" looks like.
Server Migration Architecture
You'll assess, scope, and execute server virtualization migrations — primarily VMware to Hyper‑V — across our client environments. This includes pre‑migration planning, risk identification, cutover execution, and post‑migration validation.
Cloud & Security Platform Deployment
You'll deploy and configure cloud‑based tools, including Duo MFA, Avanan email security, AutoElevate privileged access management, SentinelOne, and DattoBCDR. You'll also manage the full Microsoft stack: M365, Intune, EntraID, Conditional Access, and hybrid Active Directory environments.
Client‑Facing Advisory
You'll serve as a trusted technical advisor to our clients — assessing their environments, identifying gaps, and presenting clear, creative recommendations in a way that resonates with both technical teams and business leadership. You communicate with confidence and make the complex feel approachable.
Escalation Support
You'll serve as the senior escalation point for complex incidents across the client base, with participation in an after‑hours on‑call rotation approximately every 4–6 weeks.
Standards & Documentation
You'll contribute to the development of SOPs, project runbooks, and internal standards that make the entire team more effective and consistent.
Day‑to‑Day Responsibilities
Scope, plan, and execute server infrastructure and cloud migration projects
Deploy and configure security platforms across new and existing client environments
Lead client‑facing technical conversations, assessments, and solution presentations
Serve as senior escalation support for the service desk and managed services teams
Maintain and expand Auxiom's internal systems, including servers, cloud applications, networking, and firewalls
Manage monitoring infrastructure (SolarWinds Orion) as platform owner
Produce and maintain SOP documentation, project runbooks, and client‑facing reports
Support new employee onboarding and offboarding within Auxiom systems
Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team knowledge transfer
Who You Are
This role requires more than technical skill. We're looking for someone who:
Leads with confidence. You trust your expertise, advocate for the right solution, and aren't afraid to push back when the easy path isn't the right one.
Thinks creatively. You approach problems from multiple angles and regularly surface solutions clients didn't know were possible.
Communicates clearly. You can explain a complex infrastructure recommendation to a business owner with no IT background and make it land.
Owns outcomes. You don't wait to be managed. You follow through, document your work, and leave things better than you found them.
Thrives in complexity. Juggling multiple clients, shifting priorities, and ambiguous problems doesn't rattle you — it energizes you.
Requirements
Experience & Background
MSP experience is required. Candidates coming exclusively from internal enterprise roles will not be considered for this position. We need someone who understands the pace, multi‑client complexity, and client‑facing expectations of a managed services environment.
7+ years of hands‑on experience in systems engineering, infrastructure architecture, or a related discipline
Demonstrated experience scoping and leading infrastructure migration projects, including server virtualization
Strong working knowledge of VMware vSphere/vCenter and Hyper‑V
Deep experience with Microsoft 365, EntraID / AzureAD, Intune, and Conditional Access
Proficiency with PowerShell scripting for automation and administration
Hands‑on experience with MSP toolsets: Autotask, Kaseya, ITGlue, Datto, or equivalents
Experience deploying and managing security platforms: Duo, Avanan, SentinelOne, or comparable tools
Familiarity with network fundamentals: routing, switching, firewall administration, VPN, DNS, and DHCP
Experience with email security configuration, including SPF, DKIM, and DMARC
Certifications
Network+, Server+, or equivalent required
Microsoft certifications (MD‑102, AZ‑104, MS‑102) strongly preferred
VMware certifications a plus
CCNA or equivalent networking certification a plus
