Assistant Director - Architectural Design & Construction

Primary RoleThe Assistant Director - Construction & Architectural Design serves as the backup and second-in-command to the Director - Construction & Architectural Design, while directly managing commercial design-build projects.This role supports team leadership and process optimization, ensuring efficient project execution across multiple markets, including scheduling, budgeting, stakeholder management, and driving operational excellence.Key ResponsibilitiesAssist in leading and building design-construction teamsFoster teamwork and strong inter-company relationshipsSupport business development and project captureEstablish systems to optimize and scale the businessTrack and manage financial performanceMitigate risks related to contracts and project scopeOversee contract management and installationsDevelop and manage budgets, schedules, and scope changesVet subcontractors and support sales managersEnsure compliance with codes and regulationsPrepare and negotiate contracts and schedulesIdentify and manage project changes and issueOther Duties IncludeDrive continuous improvementEvaluate and implement new technology toolsQualificationsCertifications/Designations: AIA, PE, RAAbility to obtain contractor licenses in multiple statesAbility to obtain a security clearanceEducation/ExperienceDegree in Construction Management, Engineering, or Architecture required10+ years in commercial construction project management or leadership, with experience across diverse project types and sizes, ideally in North America and other international locationsExperience in permitting, estimating, budgeting, scheduling, and team managementProficiency in technology tools for productivity (BIM, Revit, estimating tools)Competencies RequiredStrong background in Design services and ArchitectureExtensive experience in Construction Management and Project Management Personal AttributesPositive attitude, team player, organized, independent, detail-orientedDesired BehaviorsMake fact-based decisions having done the hard work of obtaining actual dataLeaders who are visible, accessible, and provide coaching to encourage lifelong training and learningFoster teamwork and functional diversity in order to achieve the best solutionsEmployees who take ownership, speak up immediately, respond quickly, escalate if needed, and think like an ownerDrive continuous improvement through personal initiative and innovationLearn from failures in a positive/structured way… focusing on process and other improvements going forwardClearly define goals and objectives through KPI’s that are consistent with company-wide prioritiesAchieve results by consistently meeting our commitmentsFocus on what’s important to our customers (internal or external)Develop a culture of celebrating our successes… customer wins, improvements and demonstrated good behaviorSpecial RequirementsPass background checks and qualify for security clearanceAble to travel globally as required
