I&C Project Engineer Location: Corpus Christi, TX Description Role PurposeProvide technical authority (SME) for instrumentation, controls, and automationLead complex design, project execution, and lifecycle integrity for refinery systemsDesign & Project Leadership (Primary Focus)Lead instrumentation design for major capital projects ($MM–$B scale)Develop and approve:P&IDs, control narratives, C&E, interlock logicInstrument datasheets, loop diagrams, I/O listsSIS/SIL design and safeguarding strategiesPerform control valve sizing, instrument selection, and system architecture designEnsure full integration of field instrumentation with DCS / PLC / SIS systemsProvide technical oversight from FEL ? detailed design ? construction ? commissioning*Senior instrumentation engineers are responsible for full lifecycle design, specifications, and documentation for control systems and instrumentation.Project Experience (Required)Demonstrated experience leading instrumentation scope on:DCS migrations / control system upgradesSIS implementations or lifecycle upgrades (SIL compliance)New unit builds or major revamps (brownfield/greenfield)Tank farm, pipeline, and terminal automation projectsExperience coordinating with EPCs, OEMs, and multidisciplinary teamsStrong role in design reviews, FAT/SAT, commissioning, and startupCore ResponsibilitiesApprove I&C engineering designs, standards, and specificationsLead resolution of complex technical/design issuesDrive instrument reliability and design standardizationSupport PHA / HAZOP / LOPA / SIL and ensure PSM complianceInterface with Operations, Maintenance, and Project teamsInstrumentation Expertise (Required)Flow: Coriolis, Ultrasonic, DP/OrificePressure: Smart transmitters, DP systemsLevel: Radar, Guided Wave, DP, DisplacerTemperature: RTDs, ThermocouplesValves: Control valves, actuators, diagnosticsAnalyzers: GC, O?, sulfur, moistureSafety Systems: SIS, ESD, interlocksNetworks: HART, Fieldbus, Modbus*Instrumentation roles require expertise in measurement and control systems used to monitor and regulate process variables such as flow, pressure, level, and temperature.Refinery / Petrochemical ExperienceExperience in units such as Crude/Vacuum, FCC, Hydrotreating, Alkylation, UtilitiesStrong background in:PSM-covered processes and hazard analysis (PHA/HAZOP/LOPA)Hazardous area classification and design complianceTurnarounds, commissioning, and brownfield modificationsQualifications20+ years Instrumentation & Control experience (Refining/Petrochemical)Deep expertise in DCS, SIS, PLC systems and integrationKnowledge of ISA, NEC, IEC standards
