The product is used by enterprise finance, engineering, procurement, and FinOps teams making million-dollar decisions on the data flowing through your systems.Location: San Francisco, hybrid, 3 days per week in office.What Makes This Opportunity Exceptional:Duckbill runs the largest AWS community outside AWS itself: 35,000 newsletter subscribers, 5 million podcast downloads, 100,000+ social followers. The engineering team is separate from services, so this is not an FDE role.Backed by Heavybit and Uncork Capital with $7.75M raised and substantial revenue already in the door.What You'll Be Responsible For:Design, build, and operate the core backend services in Python and Flask, and design the APIs that frontend and data engineers integrate against without constant back-and-forth.Own the OLTP/OLAP split: decide what lives in Postgres (contracts, users, orgs) versus ClickHouse (billions of rows of billing data) and serve sub-second queries from both.Build the validation and transformation logic that makes the data trustworthy by the time it reaches the customer, and improve testing, CI/CD, observability, and incident response.Who Will Thrive in This Role:Strong Python and SQL, with meaningful backend experience on data-heavy products where schemas evolve and correctness is non-negotiable.Comfortable with more autonomy than feels safe. No perfect specs, new engineers ship in their first week, and foundational decisions are made without committee.Heavy daily use of AI, agents, and code review tools is expected.
