1st Shift Machine Maintenance Technician Level 3

Essential Functions of Role:This is a hands-on, senior-level maintenance position responsible for ensuring plant equipment remains safe, reliable, and efficient. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, this role serves as a highly skilled technical resource, specializing in advanced troubleshooting, repair, and optimization of mechanical, electrical, and control systems within a food manufacturing environment.Key Responsibilities Include and Accountable For:Advanced Maintenance Execution & Troubleshooting:Execute preventive maintenance, corrective repairs, rebuilds, and planned work in compliance with USDA, HACCP, GMP, and company standards.Serve as a subject matter expert in diagnosing and resolving complex equipment failures, including electrical and control systems (PLCs, HMIs, and VFDs).Perform advanced troubleshooting on mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems with minimal supervision.Respond to equipment breakdowns and production interruptions with a sense of urgency to restore operations.Support less experienced mechanics by providing technical guidance and troubleshooting support when needed.Reliability, Continuous Improvement & Root Cause Analysis:Participate in root cause analysis for recurring equipment failures and contribute to implementing effective corrective actions.Identify and communicate opportunities to improve equipment reliability, PM effectiveness, and system performance.Support continuous improvement efforts aimed at reducing downtime, improving safety, and increasing equipment efficiency.Follow disciplined startup, shutdown, and troubleshooting practices to protect equipment health.Work Order Execution & Maintenance Discipline:Execute assigned maintenance work orders efficiently and accurately, ensuring high-quality workmanship.Maintain strong adherence to preventive maintenance schedules and standards.Accurately document work performed, parts used, and observations in the maintenance management system.Communicate equipment conditions, risks, and follow-up needs to maintenance leadership and operations.Technical Support & Knowledge Sharing:Act as a resource for troubleshooting and repair techniques, sharing knowledge and best practices with the maintenance team.Assist in training and onboarding Level 1 and Level 2 mechanics through hands-on support and guidance.Promote proper maintenance practices, safety standards, and technical discipline within the team.Safety & Regulatory Compliance:Comply with all electrical codes, OSHA standards, LOTO procedures, arc flash requirements, and company safety policies.Perform all work in a safe manner and proactively identify and address potential hazards.Support safety initiatives, audits, and inspections as required.Documentation, Reporting & Communication:Ensure accurate and timely documentation of maintenance activities, troubleshooting steps, and equipment changes.Communicate effectively with maintenance leadership and operations regarding equipment status and repair timelines.Provide input on recurring issues, reliability concerns, and maintenance improvements.Key Measurable Results:Safety Performance:Maintain a strong personal safety record with zero lost-time incidents.Proactively identify and address safety risks during maintenance activities.Complete corrective maintenance related to safety risks within established timelines.Quality Performance:Support identification of maintenance-related quality issues and assist in resolving root causes.Execute corrective maintenance actions impacting product quality within required timeframes.Equipment Uptime:Maximize equipment uptime through effective troubleshooting and high-quality repairs.Support preventive maintenance completion targets (PM > 90%) and timely corrective maintenance execution.Identify and communicate recurring downtime issues and improvement opportunities.Qualifications:Education & Experience:High School Diploma or equivalent (required)Minimum of 5-8 years of industrial maintenance experience in a food manufacturing or similarly regulated production environment.Demonstrated expertise in advanced troubleshooting of mechanical and electrical systems.Skills & Abilities:Strong working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.Experience troubleshooting PLCs, HMIs, and VFDs preferred.Proficiency with maintenance management systems (CMMS).Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with a hands-on approach.Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.Ability to prioritize work and respond effectively to changing production needs.Additional Information:Flexibility in hours may be necessary to support business needs, which will be planned out in advance.Weekend work may be required to support production, projects, or maintenance needs.A valid driver's license is required.Physical Qualifications:The physical demands listed below represent those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
