About The Role We are seeking a highly skilled Sr. AI & Data Engineer specializing in Trading Analytics to join our team in Houston, TX. This role is designed for an experienced AI engineer with a strong foundation in data engineering who can develop and implement AI-driven analytics and GenAI/agentic solutions tailored for front-office trading teams. The successful candidate will work closely with traders and analysts to translate complex market questions into actionable insights, leveraging advanced data engineering techniques, statistical methods, and modern AI workflows. This is a hands-on, individual contributor role that emphasizes practical delivery, rapid prototyping, and iterative development within a high-performance environment. The role involves building scalable data pipelines, developing AI models, integrating GenAI solutions, and ensuring production readiness through adherence to best practices in CI/CD, security, and governance. The candidate will play a key role in enhancing trading decision-making processes through innovative AI and analytics solutions, contributing directly to Shell's strategic objectives in the energy market. Qualifications Legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant experience in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or related fields Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in data engineering, AI, or trading analytics Hands-on experience with Databricks and/or Spark (PySpark, SQL, Delta Lake; Unity Catalog desirable) Proven skills in data pipeline development, data modeling, and performance optimization Strong foundation in statistics, econometrics, or data science, with experience applying techniques to time-series or market datasets Practical experience building or contributing to large language model (LLM)-based solutions, including prompt engineering and retrieval-based approaches Familiarity with GenAI frameworks and orchestration tools such as LangGraph or similar Experience working with version control systems like Git and implementing CI/CD pipelines Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with analysts, traders, and business stakeholders Responsibilities Design, develop, and deploy AI-driven analytics for trading teams, including seasonality analysis, correlation studies, regression models, forecasting, and scenario modeling based on market pricing and fundamental data Collaborate with traders and analysts to understand ambiguous business questions and translate them into clear analytical problems and solutions Communicate analytical insights and AI-generated outputs effectively to stakeholders, ensuring clarity and actionable recommendations Build and maintain scalable, reusable data pipelines on Databricks using PySpark, Spark, SQL, Delta Lake, and Unity Catalog Support the ingestion, transformation, and modeling of large-scale time-series data related to market prices and fundamentals Optimize data pipelines for performance, reliability, and cost efficiency, adhering to governance standards Develop and enhance GenAI and agent-based solutions, including retrieval-augmented generation, prompt engineering, and agent orchestration Integrate LLM-based workflows with structured trading data to augment analysis, insight generation, and decision-making processes Prototype AI solutions rapidly, gather user feedback, and refine for production deployment, ensuring robustness and security Contribute to production-grade analytics with thorough testing, documentation, versioning, and observability Follow CI/CD and DevOps best practices, including automated testing and governance requirements such as data lineage and PII handling Benefits Competitive salary range of $149,000 - $223,000 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications Comprehensive health insurance including medical, dental, and vision coverage Life Insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefits Participation in company-sponsored pension and 401(k) plans Paid leave including up to 6 weeks of vacation, 11 paid holidays, and parental leave benefits Short-term and long-term disability coverage Financial reimbursements for adoption, wellness, education, and personal development expenses Opportunities for professional growth through training, development programs, and international career paths Flexible working hours and remote work options where applicable Equal Opportunity Shell is an equal opportunity employer committed to fostering an inclusive environment for all employees.
