We work with the Department of War to provide the high-speed capabilities our nation and its allies need to maintain a durable, asymmetric advantage.About The Role:As a Modeling & Simulation Software Engineering Intern you will work with the software team to develop performant modeling and simulation code for our 6DOF SITL simulation using Julia. You'll Interface with the Flight Software, HMI, and Flight Sciences teams to meet stakeholder needs and ensure accurate results. Your work will involve creating hardware/physics informed software models and validate results with real data.Spring: Around 16 weeks (January - April)Summer: Around 12 weeks (May - August)Responsibilities:Develop performant simulation code for 6 Degrees of Freedom (6DOF) Software-in-the-Loop (SITL) systems using JuliaDevelop user driven features and focus on scalability of our Monte Carlo simulationCollaborate with cross-functional teams including Flight Software, Human-Machine Interface (HMI), and Flight Sciences to align simulation outputs with stakeholder requirementsDesign and implement physics-informed models that accurately represent hardware behavior and system dynamicsValidate simulation accuracy by comparing model outputs with real-world flight data and refining models accordinglyOptimize simulation performance to ensure real-time execution and scalability across different test environmentsParticipate in code reviews and testing cycles to maintain high software quality and reliabilityDocument modeling assumptions, validation results, and integration workflows for internal knowledge sharing and future developmentRequirements:Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related technical fieldProficiency in Julia or strong experience with scientific computing languages such as Python, MATLAB, or C++Understanding of 6DOF dynamics and simulation principles, especially in aerospace or robotics contextsFamiliarity with modeling physical systems, including hardware-in-the-loop or physics-informed simulation techniquesExperience with data validation and analysis, including comparing simulation outputs to real-world dataStrong understanding of engineering first principlesDemonstrated ability to work within cross-functional teamsEnthusiasm for aviation and Hermeus' missionExcellent written and verbal communication skillsGPA of 3.0 or aboveThe hourly rate listed for this internship is intended as a general guideline.
