East Cleveland City SchoolsPosition OverviewThe Marching Band Director is responsible for leading, developing, and managing the Shaw High School Marching Band program. This role includes musical instruction, performance preparation, student leadership development, and coordination of band activities that support school spirit and community engagement.Key ResponsibilitiesProgram Leadership & InstructionPlan, organize, and direct all aspects of the marching band programTeach instrumental music, marching techniques, and performance skillsDevelop engaging halftime shows and performance routinesConduct rehearsals during and outside of the school day (including evenings and weekends)Student DevelopmentFoster student growth in musical ability, discipline, teamwork, and leadershipPromote high expectations for student behavior, attendance, and performanceSupport student participation in honor bands, competitions, and enrichment opportunitiesPerformance & EventsCoordinate performances at football games, parades, competitions, and school/community eventsPrepare the band for adjudicated events and ensure readiness for public performancesMaintain a visible and positive presence in the school and communityProgram ManagementManage inventory, maintenance, and care of instruments, uniforms, and equipmentOversee band budget, fundraising activities, and purchasing needsCollaborate with school administration on scheduling, transportation, and logisticsCollaboration & CommunicationWork closely with school leadership, athletic department, and fine arts staffCommunicate regularly with students, families, and boostersEngage parents and community members to support the band programCompliance & SafetyEnsure adherence to district policies and safety proceduresSupervise students during all rehearsals, travel, and performancesQualificationsBachelor's degree in Music Education or related field (required)Valid Ohio teaching license (or ability to obtain)Experience directing or assisting a marching band program preferredStrong knowledge of marching band techniques, music theory, and instrumental instructionDemonstrated ability to motivate and manage student groupsWork ScheduleSchool-day teaching schedule plus extended hours for rehearsals, performances, and eventsEvening and weekend commitments are required during the marching seasonTerms of Employment: Stipend:2026 - 2027 School Year ECEA Supplemental Salary ScheduleApplication ProcedureApplications are to be completed via the on-line Application Process.https://www.applitrack.com/eastcleveland/onlineapp/
