POSITION OVERVIEW: (non-exempt)Creates a professional office image by providing superior customer service while effectively assisting the medical providers in the care and treatment of patients, and by working cooperatively with other staff members to promote a smooth flow of work within the office. Performs assigned procedures and duties within the scope of practice as set forth by the Iowa State Board of Nursing. Regular attendance is an essential function of this position.QUALIFICATIONS:Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a current Iowa RN or LPN license or completion of a Medical Assistant program/Certified Medical Assistant preferredCurrent Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certificationExperience in a physician's office preferredComputer skills preferredBi-lingual (Spanish speaking) preferredACCOUNTABILITY:Reports to JCHC Clinic Nurse ManagerDIRECT REPORTS:NonePOSITION-SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:Ability to maintain confidentiality; and both a high standard of courtesy and cooperation in dealing with co-workers, patients, and visitors and satisfactory job performance despite the stress of a clinic work environmentAssists with in-office patient care:Rooms patients in a professional and friendly mannerTakes vital signs, BP's, Ht., Wt.Obtains reason for visit, updates history and medication lists, obtain nursing assessments and screens health maintenanceAssists or performs procedures as directed by the physician (i.e., waived lab tests, dressing changes, suture removal, venipunctures, injections, etc.)Performs patient educationObtains consentsCommunicates with other hospital departments to schedule tests and proceduresCalls pharmacies to order prescribed medications and refills as directed by the physicianReturns calls from patients, pharmacies, other physicians, etc. in a timely mannerCommunicates with outside agencies as neededAccurately, completely, and in a timely manner documents findings and outcomes of all above interactions in patient electronic medical record and signs each entryPerforms telephone triage (RN only) according to physician-approved protocols and schedules work-in appointments for acute patientsMaintains the clinic Vaccine for Children (VFC) ProgramStay up to date on educational requirements that are required by the VFC ProgramMaintain immunization logs and required documentation to meet the needs of the VFC Program.Responsible for reordering of immunizations to meet clinic/patient needsAssists during initial set up of the VFC Program and any future recertification process needs as wellCalls insurance companies for pre-certification when neededMaintains a clean working environmentCleans and keeps stocked exams/ procedure roomsDemonstrates appropriate instrument and safety procedures when cleaning and disinfecting per clinic routineTakes and receives instruments from Central Sterilization as neededCheck medications and supplies for expiration monthly, properly disposing of expired medications and suppliesAlerts manager to any problems with instruments, equipment, or environmentAssists office staff as neededAttend meetings and in-services as requiredPerform other duties as assigned
