Job SummaryWORK HOURS:30-34 hours/weekApproximate schedule:7:30am-2:30pm M, T, TH, F7:30am-2:00pm - WRequirements / QualificationsComments and Other InformationThe job of the Instructional Assistant is to support students' academic and/or behavioral needs. The Instructional Assistant supports the teacher in ensuring student safety and student engagement.The Instructional Assistant is also responsible for enforcing disciplinary policies and regulations; communicating observations and incidents to other school personnel that may impact the welfare, safety, and/or security of students, personnel, visitors and the school site.Essential Job Functions:*Provides instructional support to students as needed under the direction of the classroom teacher*Provides behavioral support to students and helps students to self-regulate. Uses protocols to de-escalate a child.* Monitors students during lunch periods and recesses within a variety of school environments, (i.e. restrooms, playgrounds, hallways, classrooms, library, bus stops, cafeteria, and adjacent areas) for the purpose of providing for the safety and welfare of students.* Informs students, personnel and the general public as appropriate for the purpose of ensuring their understanding of school regulations and policies.* Prepares documentation for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.* Reports observations and incidents relating to specific students (i.e. discipline, accidents, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to teachers and administration.Other Job Functions:* When appropriate, administers playground equipment for the purpose of providing equipment necessary for activities.* Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.* Assists teachers for the purpose of implementing lesson plans.* Performs record keeping and basic clerical functions, scheduling, copying, etc. for the purpose of supporting the teacher in maintaining student files and providing classroom materials.*Translates documents from English to Spanish as needed*Supervises students before school and during recessJob Requirements - Qualifications:* Knowledge and/or Abilities Required:• Skill to use English in both written and verbal form and make common sense decisions.• Knowledge of campus and student safety.• Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods, understand oral and written instruction.• Experience working with elementary age students• Experience working with students with Special Needs• Experience with Restorative Practices and/or Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports
