Maintenance Technician

JOB OBJECTIVE: The Maintenance Technician will perform preventive maintenance tasks and/or repairs including but not limited to those on production equipment, material handling equipment, facilities, boilers, wastewater systems, and company vehicles, to ensure execution of efficient and effective operating procedures to enable the Organization to maximize profitability and achievement of strategic goals. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Perform repairs, modifications, and preventative maintenance on production machines and supporting equipment to ensure efficient daily production runs Conduct preventative maintenance inspections and perform required preventative maintenance, as needed Troubleshoot and repair mechanical equipment (electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic) and systems requiring isolation of the malfunction, disassembly of equipment, and repair bearings, gears, structural components, etc. Work on assigned projects and respond to urgent maintenance calls from production teams Assist on line changeovers, performing needed adjustments, preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting Perform general mechanical work connected with various facilities projects - electrical, carpentry, and plumbing Perform non-certified welding, wiring, and simple machining operations incidental to repair and maintenance tasks Calibrate temperature probes and chart recorders to maintain compliance with State regulations Assist with general carpentry and/or moving of equipment, materials, and furniture Handle general facilities maintenance as needed/schedule filter replacements, plant lighting, grounds keeping, etc. Maintain equipment spare parts inventory, advising maintenance leadership of needs in timely manner Operate equipment including but not limited to drill press, hydraulic press, forklift, scissor lift, boom lift, backhoe, concrete saw, etc. Operate industry tools including but not limited to: hand tools, power tools, drill press, hydraulic press, hydraulic press, multimeter, tape measure, and a torque wrench in ft-lb. and in-lb. Safety and Development Must comply with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), and any/all established processes, whether established by their manager, by the company or by law Work in a safe manner and report any unsafe work, working conditions or accidents immediately Comply with all health, safety, security, and emergency requirements that are communicated, whether established by manager, by the company or by law Must report/communicate safety hazard(s) and/or workplace accidents to a member of leadership or P&C Must comply with all Company policies communicated to you through your Employee Manual, trainings, notice boards or other postings, or by a member of management Ensure all areas of responsibility are kept neat, clean, and free of hazards; notify team members of any issues and immediately resolve or communicate larger problem to Safety Manager or other member of management General Ensure work is produced in the most sustainable manner and assist in the communication of companywide sustainability goals to all team members Participate in staff meetings including but not limited to pay day huddles, safety meetings, and team meetings Maintain excellent attendance Travel to other Straus locations, as needed Other duties as requested JOB REQUIREMENTS Education and Experience: High school diploma, preferred but not required Previous maintenance experience, required Basic knowledge of three phase motors, motor controls, wrapping, and food processing equipment, required Familiarity with centrifugal, PD, and progressive cavity pumps - understanding of gear ratios and speeds, required Basic working knowledge of fundamentals of electricity, required Basic understanding of electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems, and ability to read related schematics, preferred Basic welding experience in horizontal position using ARC, MIG, and TIG welding, preferred Basic competency in assembling PVC piping, preferred Working knowledge of general carpentry and related power tools, preferred Basic technical math for measures or converting measurements, understanding volume/weight, required Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work on a team/in a group setting and maintaining a positive working environment, required Ability to read, understand, and implement written instructions and procedures in English Bilingual English/Spanish, preferred but not required Must possess valid Driver's License, good driving record, and reliable transportation to travel between locations as needed/requested, required Must be flexible to work OT and different shifts and holidays if/when required and to work weekends, as Operational needs arise PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Work in a manufacturing environment Extended periods of standing, walking, climbing, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and stooping, turning the head and torso, reaching, grasping, bending and flexing the arms, legs, wrists, hands, and fingers.
