Senior CNC Lathe Machinist

This role serves as a technical lead within the machining team, supporting part development, optimizing machining processes, and ensuring production quality and efficiency. The position requires strong hands-on machining expertise, CNC programming knowledge, and the ability to troubleshoot complex machining issues.This is a full-time, hourly, non-exempt position located on-site at our production facility in Walker, MI. ResponsibilitiesDevelop, modify, and optimizeCNC programs for lathe operations to support new and existing production partsLead setup, prove-out, and first article runs for new and repeat jobsSet up and operate CNC lathes, mills, and broaches in a production environmentInterpret blueprints, CAD models, and GD&T specifications to ensure parts are manufactured to required tolerancesPerform first-piece, in-process, and final inspections using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other precision measuring toolsDiagnose and resolve machining, tooling, and equipment issues to minimize downtime and maintain production flowOptimize feeds, speeds, tooling, and machining processes to improve efficiency, cycle time, and product qualitySupport new part development by determining machining strategies, tooling requirements, and process improvementsPerform finishing operations such as deburring, keying, balancing, and preparing parts for final packagingMaintain equipment and work areas in compliance with 5S and safety standardsOperate supporting equipment such as forklifts, broaches, and air compressors as neededProvide technical guidance and support to machinists and operators on setups, machining techniques, and troubleshootingMake recommendations for process improvements, cost reduction, and productivity enhancementsComply with all AMG policies, procedures, and safety requirementsContribute positively to the team by supporting and assisting fellow machinists and production staffKnowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesMultiple years of prior experience programming, setting up, and operating CNC lathesStrong understanding of CNC programming, tooling selection, feeds/speeds, and machining processesProficient in reading blueprints, CAD drawings, GD&T specificationsAnalytical problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot machining issuesAbility to contribute in a cross-collaborative manufacturing environmentBasic MS Office Word and Excel skillsRequirementsHigh school diploma/equivalent or higherAbility to stand and walk for long periods of time, and lift up to 75 pounds periodicallyAbility to perform basic math functions
