Job description: *Senior Java Developer (Java/Spring Boot)* *Location:* Ashburn, VA (*Hybrid – 2-3 days onsite per week*) *Employment Type:* Full-time / Contract / C2C *Rate: Approximately $75/hour on C2C* *Position Overview* We are seeking a *Senior Java Developer* with strong hands-on experience in *Java, Spring Framework, Spring Boot, JPA/Hibernate, and PostgreSQL* to support a mission-critical *U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP)* program. This is a hands-on development role where you will design, develop, maintain, and enhance enterprise-grade applications and services supporting critical federal missions. The ideal candidate has extensive experience with *Java application development, Spring Boot, JPA/Hibernate, and relational databases*, along with a strong understanding of *REST APIs* and modern software development practices. Experience with *AWS and cloud-based application development* is highly desirable. You will work closely with software engineers, architects, QA engineers, product owners, and other stakeholders in an *Agile environment* to deliver secure, scalable, and high-quality applications. *Key Responsibilities* * Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable enterprise applications using *Java, Spring Framework, and Spring Boot*. * Develop robust backend services, *RESTful APIs*, and application components using modern Java development practices. * Build and maintain data access and persistence layers using *JPA/Hibernate*. * Design, develop, and optimize database interactions using *PostgreSQL* and relational database technologies. * Debug, troubleshoot, and enhance existing applications to improve performance, stability, scalability, and maintainability. * Participate in technical design, architecture discussions, code reviews, and development activities. * Develop and maintain *unit and integration tests* to ensure application quality and reliability. * Integrate applications and services with internal and external systems through *REST APIs* and other integration technologies. * Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives. * Collaborate with QA teams to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve application defects. * Support application deployment and integration into *CI/CD pipelines*. * Contribute to application modernization and *cloud initiatives, including AWS-based solutions*. * Promote software development best practices, code quality, security, and continuous improvement. *Required Qualifications* * *U.S. Citizenship is required.* * *Active CBP or DHS security clearance is highly preferred.* * Minimum *7 years of professional software development experience* with strong Java experience. * Strong *hands-on Java programming experience* is required.
