You'll have direct access to leadership and immediate visibility into the impact of your work.The RoleYou'll own TILT's day-to-day accounting operations: maintaining the books, managing vendor payments and customer invoicing, running month-end close in coordination with our external CPA, and serving as the financial backbone that lets leadership make informed decisions. This role reports directly to the COO.We need someone who can spot a miscategorized transaction, flag a cash flow concern before it becomes a problem, and understand why accurate cost allocation matters in a government contracting environment.ResponsibilitiesBookkeeping & ReconciliationMaintain books in QuickBooks Online (QBO) — daily transaction categorization, account reconciliations, journal entriesReconcile Ramp corporate cards and expense reports to QBO; enforce receipt and memo compliance across the teamManage accounts payable: review vendor invoices, process payments, maintain vendor recordsManage accounts receivable: generate customer invoices, track collections, apply paymentsOnboard new vendors — collect W-9s, set up in QBO, verify ACH banking detailsMonth-End Close & ReportingRun full month-end close with Cherry Bekaert (external CPA) — reconcile all accounts, post journal entries, deliver clean trial balanceProduce monthly financial package for COO and CEO: P&L, balance sheet, and cash position summaryMaintain audit-ready records and support year-end closeLight quarterly cash flow forecastingPayroll & ComplianceReview and approve payroll in Gusto before each run; post payroll journal entries to QBOFile Maryland sales and use tax returnsTrack qualifying expenses for the R&D Tax Credit (IRC § 41) with proper cost codingMaintain DCAA-compatible recordkeeping; support indirect cost pool allocation for government contractsPrepare and file 1099s for qualifying vendors annuallyOperations SupportTrack purchase orders and match to vendor invoices and paymentsInvoice government customers based on contract milestones or cost-plus billing schedulesSupport COO & CEO on ad hoc financial analysis, budget vs. actual reviews, and spending decisionsApprove timesheets for monthly closeWhat We're Looking ForRequired3–5+ years of hands-on bookkeeping or staff accounting experienceProficiency in QuickBooks OnlineExperience with corporate expense platforms (Ramp, Concur, Expensify, or similar)Comfortable working independently with minimal oversightStrong attention to detail — cost allocation errors in a government contracting environment have downstream billing consequencesStrongly PreferredExperience in a small government contractor (GovCon) environment — DCAA timekeeping, indirect rates, cost-type contractsExperience coordinating with an external CPA firm on monthly closeWorking knowledge of FAR/DFARS billing requirementsNice to HaveAssociate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related fieldCPA, CMA, or in-progress certificationExperience with Gusto payroll platformCompensation & BenefitsBase salary $65,000–$90,000 commensurate with experienceICHRA health benefit (individual coverage health reimbursement arrangement)401(k)31-day PTO: 16 holidays + 15 discretionary days + 5 sick daysLocation & ScheduleHybrid — primarily remote with regular visits to our Annapolis, MD office.
