Summary: The Public Relations Intern supports the Director of Media and Public Relations in advancing team communication goals, including generating media impressions and elevating ASTHO’s strategic priorities. Responsibilities include drafting news releases, statements, social media posts, and newsletter content; helping plan and promote media briefings; and tracking news for drafting and newsjacking opportunities.Location: RemoteUndergraduate rate: $20.00 per hourGraduate rate: $23.00 per hourDuration & Hours: 3 months working 20 hours per weekPrincipal FunctionsAssists with drafting news releases and statements, social media posts, and newsletter content Assists with planning and promoting media briefingsAssists with developing social media campaigns for audience expansionTracks and monitors news for newsjacking opportunitiesDevelops media lists and pitches stories to reportersUtilizes Meltwater to follow social media and news mentions for all members, state and territorial health departments, and public health topicsIdentifies topics for the Public Health Review Morning Edition newscast and books guestsAttends meetings with public relations team, program teams, and vendors QualificationsCurrently pursuing a bachelor's degree in public relations, communications, journalism, or a related field preferredHealthcare experience preferredStrong attention to detailStrong oral and written communicatorDesire to learnTeam playerAbout Us: ASTHO is the national nonprofit organization representing the public health agencies of the United States, the U.S. territories and Freely Associated States, and the District of Columbia, as well as the more than 100,000 public health professionals these agencies employ.
