Join our dynamic team and help shape Ghirardelli's future.Job SummaryThe HR Manager, Retail, is responsible for providing full spectrum human resources support to VP of Retail & eCommerce, retail corporate business leaders, and the hourly retail field organization.This includes managing employee relations, performance, compliance, workers compensation, union relations, policy management, arbitration and grievances, recruitment and retention, union contract negotiations and driving the development and implementation of these and other HR programs that enable performance and ensure operational excellence.RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIESEmployee Relations & Culture* Serve as the primary HR partner for restaurant leaders, providing guidance on performance management, coaching, conflict resolution, and team development.* Foster a positive, inclusive, and high-performance culture aligned with our brand values.* Support retail leadership in ensuring equitable practices, strengthening inclusion acumen, and promoting a culture of inclusivity and belonging that embraces the contributions of all team members.* Conduct thorough, unbiased investigations into employee concerns and recommend appropriate actions.Compliance & Risk Management* Ensure full compliance with federal, state and local labor laws, wage and hour regulations, meal/rest break requirements, and local ordinances.* Maintain and update HR policies, handbooks, and procedures to reflect evolving local, state and federal requirements.* Partner with operations to prepare for and respond to audits, inspections, and regulatory inquiries.* Monitor and mitigate HR-related risks across restaurant locations.Pay-for-Performance & Talent Development* Lead the implementation and ongoing refinement of pay-for-performance programs that reward results and reinforce accountability.* Support managers in goal-setting, performance feedback, and development planning.* Understand retail organizational needs and business issues and develop solutions. Accountable for proactively partnering with retail and HR leadership to facilitate and deploy solutions in areas that drive achievement of our retail goals.Union Interaction* Support leaders in maintaining a direct, transparent relationship with employees.* Provide guidance on early identification of workplace issues that could lead to organizing activity.* Ensure all actions align with NLRA guidelines while promoting a healthy, engaged workforce.HR Operations & Reporting* Oversee HR metrics including turnover, retention, staffing levels, and employee engagement indicators.* Partner with recruiting teams to support staffing strategies and workforce planning.* Oversees Workers Compensation in partnership with Employee Health & Safety (EHS).* Partners with recruiting team and retail leadership to aid in selection and retention of retail employees.* Complete special projects and other duties as assigned or as necessary.MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEExperience:* 5+ years HR management or related experience in a premium retail environment.* HR experience working both store level and related corporate client groups at all levels within a retail organization.* Deep knowledge of California employment legal and regulatory guidelines, practices, and procedures particularly in wage and hour and timekeeping.* Experience with union contracts and grievance administration preferred.* Experience with Workday HRIS preferredSkills & Knowledge:* Must be self-motivated and able to work independently with sound judgement.* Assertive self-starter with ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.* Excellent written and verbal communication skills across all levels of the organization.* Proven coaching and adept consultative skills.* Excellent collaborative and negotiation skills with ability to build productive business relationships cross functionally within the organization.* Ability to prioritize and effectively measure and drive for results in an entrepreneurial work environment.* Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to work through processes, identify and implement process/program improvements and resolve complex matters.Education:* Bachelor's degree in related field required.* Master's degree, preferred.Other Requirements:* Travel 20% - domestic primarily to Ghirardelli retail establishments.* Working hours flexibility to occasionally support weeknight/weekend store operations.Some examples of working conditions: Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds Required to regularly sit Must be able to work seated or standing for at least 8 hours Must be able to concentrate for extended periods of time paying close attention to detail Works in a regular office environment*****Salary: $117,770 to $153,080 / yearTogether, we thrive to achieve our bold ambitions, powered by our purpose and unique culture of community and mutual support – rooted in a proud tradition, yet always evolving to stay ahead and set new standards.Across our diverse local teams, we think globally and act locally – empowering people to grow, take ownership and shape a sustainable future together.We are a responsible "employer of choice" who provides an inspiring people experience.
